A selection of turned Pewter finials I made from melted down tankards.

Pewter is soft enough to be turned with standard woodturning tools.

Are you making moulds from wood or something else?
It is soft enough yes, if you don't mind having to keep stopping to sharpen that is, yes i make moulds from wood.
 
Nice work. How do you melt the pewter and in what, blow lamp or something special?

As an aside, one of the odd items on antiques roadshow last week was a flat bottomed conical lignum vitae "pint" used as a former for biffing the dents out of pewter tankards in ale houses to ensure fair measure.

I melt it in an old saucepan on a camping stove..... and i'm anti dent, fair measures all the way :)
