Can anyone advise me on this lathe please ?

I've been offered one at £150 delivered.

I think it's variable speed 600 / 1250 rpm

1000mm turning length max.

Was sold by B & Q, no spares other than drive belts available now.

Was made by GMC, now defunct co.

Anyone here got one ? Any constructive comments welcome.

Cheers guys.

I’ve got one, now mainly used as a disc sander. Wouldn’t recommend it for a serious turner.

It’s a copy lathe, there should be a travelling assembly under the main bed with a set of cutters.

The tail stock isn’t hollow, you won’t be able to drill through it with a long auger bit.

The headstock thread is ¾ 16tpi, fairly standard thread but I remember looking at the dimensions in the Axminster catalogue. There is a much longer gap between the end of the threads and the headstock on this lathe than is shown in the catalogue. No idea if this is significant but it might be an idea to check if this could cause problems with a third party chuck.

I bought some ¾ UNF nuts and use them glued to plywood discs to make up extra sanding faceplates.

I think £ 145 was the final price when B&Q sold them off in clearance.

Regards
Jim

From what I saw of the machine when it was around in B&Q it was of a lower order of desirability than the budget Perform I was using at the time.
