Hi all

I usually work my wood green with axe, adze and knives but I have been asked to build a firewood log store for a friend.

The store will be 6ft high by 6ft wide, solid roof, slatted sides and open fronted. There will be shelves at four feet for kindling etc

My confusion is coming from wood choice, I have had cedar for the planks and frame and fir for the roof suggested to me. The other recommendation is for tanalised scandanavian redwood.

I wondered what people here would choose or suggest. I am struggling with a plan for the roof as well.

Build it as quickly and cheaply as you can . Cheapest treated timber, ordinary screws - by the time it falls to bits, he either won't need it, will need another bigger one or will have moved house.

Leeds castle (*) has a room (more like a wide corridor) with an ebony FLOOR. By far the most ebony I've ever seen in one place.

BugBear

(*) not in Leeds!
