I've came across a stunning piece of ,I think ,pure Black Marble,(it's from a Fire Display )and it's the long hearth section,It's about 5 feet x 2 feet, and the weight of it is serious,it's about 20 mm thick,I was thinking would it be possible,to cut and router a recess ,to catch a router plate?,if it can be done,is it with a special made router bit!.Where would I get such a bit, link provided if possible please,I will upload images later.

Marble and other ceramics can be milled slowly, but it needs diamond-impregnated tools, a high speed, and copious water cooling. Think dentist's drill. A router would be wildly unsafe with the flow of water needed. Could qualify you for a Darwin Award, though!

Yes it's possible but not for the home user. Take it to your loca headstone maker, they should have the tools to do it for you.

I would use it for something else if its that stunning, it seems a waste to use it as a router table.

Coffee table, sideboard, middle of a dining table...

It (or say 2 feet of it, as long as your longest plane) would make a nice workshop flat surface for laying out, measuring, checking and restoring plane sole flatness, etc. Again, get it cut down professionally.

+1 what Rorschach said.

I picked up some carrera slabs ...talked to local undertakers who referred me to their pro msrble/granite cutters/engravers. I went to see them and its no minor skill. (some marble can be a bit crumbly as well..even at 20mm)
