Hi All, I have in my possession a large quantity of 30mm thick iroko lab bench tops, some of the boards are >600mm wide, the first project is a greene and greene style blanket chest, my question is how can I lighten the tone of the wood? I have considered a thin coat of ivory coloured paint wiped off leaving "whiteness" in the grain then sanding sealer cut back and briwaxed, are there any other methods or products that are better/easier ?
thanks in advance
Chris

I don't know if it will work with Iroko but liming paste is often used on oak to give a lighter waxed finish?
Open the grain with a brass brush, lime paste then rub off surplus - finish off with a wax.
