Hi All,

I have just picked up a pen mandrel from eBay, a PSI Maxi Pen Mandrel.
This is a collet mandrel, 1MT that will fit my Record CL4. Its all in good condition but is short of some of the 7mm bushings. I will make some copies on my modelling Lathe so no real problem.

Does anyone else on the forum have one of these? Any recommendations for a starter pen kit? I have plenty of pen blank materials, just don't want to attempt too much until I get the hang of it.

Regards,

Mike C

Just be aware that the 24crt gold itself is not as robust as the harder 10crt version.

The epoxy coating is an attempt to apply a reasonably hard wearing film to a very soft plating.

A lot of people assume that because it is a higher carat gold that it is better when as far as I am aware it is a cheaper production option, usually reflected in the price of budget kits.

I'd go along with the Artisan recommend for a new starter.
