I stumbled across this video series of a Japanese man setting up his smoothing plane. Fitting the Kanna to the Dai. There is no translation (yet, I hope someone can do one) but you can get the gist of it. there are other good clips on the same channel.
He shows how to tap out a badly sharpened blade and everything.

LOL Pete can I have another set of subtitles for the chinglish coming out the other end of autotranslate please?

Don't bother with the autotranslate unless you want to keep stopping it every 10 seconds to read the funny gibberish it gives you.
 
It does take some figuring out, but it is helpful sometimes!
