Hi

I know beech & maple are common timbers for chopping boards, but I've got an idea for a design that involves a red and pale blonde-y motif, set in to a board of a different colour (probably brown, as we're talking about wood).

The pale wood is easy - probably beech - but can people suggest suitable food-safe browns & reds? Bearing in mind all 3 need to contrast, so the motif is visible.

I'm wary of walnut, in case of potential nut allergies (don;t know if I'm being paranoid here, but as it's for someone else, I'd prefer to play safe).

what about sycamore or ash for the pale, and beech for the brown?
 
nope!

I was racking my brains for something slightly red. Steamed beech is pinkish?
 
I have some douglas fir which is extremely pink

not quite red
what about meranti?
