I like that, but IMHO it could do with a cowl above the motor to redirect shavings, or maybe a slight redesign to put the motor to the rear.

The lathe doesn't have slow enough speeds for larger bowls.

A lot of work and effort into refining the idea, pity he did not think through the basics of pillar stability, speed range and motor power before he started.
He obviously manages larger bowls but it must be with some difficulty starting a large out of balance blank, especially a dry one, and 1HP is rather a low limit for the projected max diameter catered for, but there again the HP limit might be a saving grace for safety reasons give speed and stability constraints.
There's a very good reason behind the basics of the cast head columns of the old graduates etc.
