I've come across a barn due for demolition and the farmer is clearing it all out ready.

I have picked up 8 planks of this wood but I don't know what it is.

Not bad then for £20! If anyone wants the contact PM me and pass it on, its located near Dewsbury.

Now to decide what to do with it!

That could be Sycamore or lime, it seems too white and too fibrous for Beech, you need to plane a section smooth and get a close up of the grain, a shot of some bark would also help.

Another shot after rough turning. I will have to wait for daylight to get a shot of the bark. All I know is the wood has been in the barn at least 10 years!

Yep, I'd call that as beech. It's got the classic pale wood / dark brown medullary rays for it.
