Hello all

I am new to this forum and also new to woodworking

I want to try and build a multi drawer cabinet to hold some small tools etc
If possible could I have some advice please on what material to use
I was thinking plywood because it's going to be used in my shed
There are quite a few types of plywood, which would be best or is there another material that I could use that is low cost

Hello and welcome.
If you're making the cabinet for the joy of making something that will hopefully last for years, Birch ply would be favourite, but its not cheap.
Your local builders merchant will probably keep some low to medium quality ply in stock which would structurally be fine for what you want especially if you're just beginning and practicing as you go.

You could also use MFC (Melamine Faced Chipboard) - what kitchen cabinets are made from, but construction methods would possibly be slightly different and it wouldn't be as strong as plywood.

If you just want a storage solution for the shed and need it to be cheap, buying a kitchen cupboard base or wall unit from one of the big diy places would probably be cheaper than buying the materials to build the same thing!

Hi Nev

I will go with the Birch plywood, your suggestion to buy the kitchen cupboard base is a good one but I am keen to try and build this myself as I want to start learning.

Thanks for the advice
