Still sorting some old hard drives I found this hammer I was able to restore.

It has suffered a lot in its life. As the burrs show.

Power tools and coffee had the faces good again.

Electrolysis used to remove the rust.

I then uysed a hard wood charcoal fire to harden the head, then a soft wood fire to temper it.

When it was spit bubbling hot it was dipped in clean oil.

The original shaft was saved as well.
 
Nice job on the hammer. Using a hammer or cold chisel that has mushroomed like that there is a risk of copping a metal splinter in the eye.
