    Sketch-up which .exe?

Hi Peter, stumbled on your post and was chuffed at all the info cos its just what I have been looking for! Although more for furniture design than turning, once I get my kit installed in a barn (yet to have a concrete floor, windows and sundry essentials as yet) I can get busy. Its a while...

    Block Plane - honing angles?

This comment may bring a few groans but sometimes the obvious is overlooked. You have remembered the the ground edge should be uppermost in a block plane? Had a pal who used his 'block' with the blade in the wrong way round. Said with a smile and hope its received in the same way - Rgds Jim

    GRINDING CHISELS

FOR GIDON Watched your video - brilliant, should be on a CD with every copy of the various woodworking mags. Thanks from me and no doubt hundreds of others that have watched in awe. Like most things - simple when you know how, its the 'how' bit thats the wall to climb. Regards Brit-in-France

    GRINDING CHISELS

Thanks Guys for your suggestions. My original enquiry was along the lines of seeking a 'cure-all' gismo that I could attach to my 6" grinder that would give me the 25 degree angle. (Basically also on 'the cheap') Looking back I could have explained this better. I also wondered if one scratch...

Swinging Crib / Cradle - WIP with Pics

Hi Mark Just discovered this string and have to say I was blown away by this project - so much so, I got to thinking which of my brood is the most likely to need a crib in the near future. Forgive an amature, but wht is ABW? It is in the wee small hours I'm typing this so thought patterns not...

    Adjstable foot stool.

Brilliant! SWMBO said it would be perfect for the new sofas. 2 questions 1. Is it easy to adjust downwards or is a third hand required? 2. Do you have plans and if no free, what price are they please? (my messages always appear so stilted - sorry for that.) Regards Brit

    GRINDING CHISELS

Thanks Gidon Most helpfull. Thought there was a magic formula re- the angle to be achieved versus the diameter of the wheel. Also have an old whetestone incased in a flexible (wish they had made it rigid) plastic water trough, but is out of true. Will get a Screwfix stone dresser and along with...

    GRINDING CHISELS

Dear All I have an Eclipse chisel/plane honing gauge from year dot which has and is still serving me well. Have gone through a number of stones as they get out of 'flat' despite care taken to us as much of the stone as possible. Several questions for you: 1. For the first angle of the chisel...

    Equiping a workshop

Wow! Gets heated here doesn't it? Can I thank skywriter for his original question about w/s layout, it couldn't have come at a more opportune time for me as I am in the process of digging out an earth floor of a 4m x 8m barn in preparation for a reinforced concrete floor and hopefully the best...

    removing stuck screws

Re: PlusGas - showing my age now as have not seen it for at least two years prior to coming to France 18 months ago. It would be a boon here as if you want to keep your head above water you have to recycle timber, nuts and bolts (hence the need of a releasing agent) Perhaps there's someone out...

    removing stuck screws

Most stuck screws/or bolts but no bigger than 5mm diam. I use a soldering iron and heat it up. Usually releases. Failing that, vinegar or WD40 helps. Screw extractors I find most useless, but have a set of reverse spirals bits which fit a handle of a 'die' set (small vice grips can work) but...

    Best buy on budget planer-thicknessers?

Dear all, Newby living in France where timber can be 3 x UK price! (This applies to both treated (the majority) and non treated.(Except Oak - much cheaper than UK, but still pricy.) Have resorted to raiding the woodbin at the local recycling centre and bought assorted timber when people have...
