    wood prices

I would be very careful about buying timber from Wickes without having a good look at it first. I ordered about £75 worth off their website and, while some of it was twisted and totally unusable , many of the other lengths have a curve going across the grain making it only suitable for the...

    Axminster Heavy Duty Wood Rack

Rawlplugs - Maybe most of you guys are too young to remember them but it used to be possible to buy fibre Rawlplugs which were the genuine article and, IMHO, much superior to the plastic or nylon ones available now. I really wish it were still possible to buy fibre Rawlplugs but I understand...

    Bosch or Makita?

Whilst searching for a router table, I saw this and wondered whether it might interest you: http://www.toolbox.co.uk/bosch-108vpowe ... 0000-84111 David

    Round in circles

After reading OPJ's comments regarding safety, I'm glad you're considering a bandsaw :) It simply isn't worth risking accidents and none of us want to find out the hard way. David

    Metabo TS250 fence adjustment

I didn't object to having to adapt my Ryobi TS to get it working properly but I think if I'd bought a new Metabo and experienced the problems you're having, I'd have returned it. David

    Round in circles

In theory yes, but in practise I think such a method would be inaccurate and leave you with a lot of cleaning up, ie. planing / sanding of the pieces. If you really intend to do the job that way, a table saw would be better than a handheld CS. As I rarely if ever rip such thick pieces though...

    Round in circles

Depending upon how many and how often you deal with these monsters, have you considered a bandsaw? Much more expensive of course, but very difficult to rip the size you've quoted with a hand held CS. David

    Round in circles

Looks good to me - you could save a few quid by buying here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dewalt-D23550-Cir ... 7C294%3A50 Trouble is, a genuine DeWalt blade might cost you as much as a CS. I bought a couple of fine blades for my Bosch but they weren'y made by Bosch and came on a two for one offer...

Are you seeking advice on choosing a CS or do you just want to know about why Bosch and Dewalt have different blade sizes :? David

    Ouch...

I'd thought about making my own router table or mounting my new router under my TS but, after reading this thread, I'll only use a table if it's one specifically designed for tha job and is fitted with a guard and fence. David

    Ouch...

As others have said, it was brave of you to post. Your misfortune is a timely warning to me, as I'm awaiting delivery of my first router, a tool I hadn't previously considered particularly dangerous. I assume your router was mounted on a table with the cutter uppermost. I did receive a small...

Thanks Oldman, I seldom make snap decisions and will wait awhile but I do think a 1/4 will be big enough for the type of work I want to do. David :)

    More Clamps?

Just found the clamps advertised here: http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/2827_10403.htm At that price, I suppose it was too much to hope they were quick clamps. David

    More Clamps?

Thanks, I'm going into Aldi this week and will look out for clamps while I'm there. I recently bought a couple of these from B&Q to try and am pleased with them: http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?a ... earch=true David

My First Router - Advice Please...

Thank you Clewloan and Karl, Yes, I definitely agree that the Erbaur would be too cumbersome for my purpose and I'm going to look at one of these: http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?a ... earch=true I'm a little confused though, as the spec states collet sizes of 6mm and 8 mm while the...
