Has there been a gory accident thread yet?

OUCH! my fingers hurt just looking at the picture in that thread, I hope you're suitably recovered now? Lots of things like that going on in Axemen on channel 5, interesting series and extremely dangerous job!

    New addition to the workshop

There seem to be a lot of foxes here in Poole. One has burrowed a den/lair? under our neighbours shed, drives my dogs mad!

Custom Router Tables - depth adjustment and power?

By power I mean in the on/off sense, I do have power level (speed?) adjustment on the router base but that's just like a scroll wheel so its easy to change. The trend T11 router looks like a beast, bit out of my price range though sadly. I think the Router Raizer looks good, not too bad price...

Custom Router Tables - depth adjustment and power?

Just been looking at people's custom made router tables, and I have two questions: 1. How do you control power? my Bosch router has a safety button, and a "go" button, the only way I can see is clamping those down, then using one of those red and green button plugs to control power flow to the...

Super Quick Pine Desk 5 Day Build Time

Looks nice Chems, I like the chunky legs - I was planning on a similar size ratio and style on the desk I'm working on. How does the drawer work? (I'm totally new to all this).

Making breadboard ends with only hand tools?

Thanks for the history Argus, very interesting. In my case though I'm just trying to copy some existing furniture I want to match. I had read about the qualities of keeping the joined wood straight though. Had a go with my router again today, and managed a snug fit. But I can only do the groove...

Making breadboard ends with only hand tools?

Thanks for the responses guys, I think I'll have one more go with my router and see if I can get anywhere this time. If not I'll take my time with the saw/chisel approach, I don't mind spending time on it as long as its going to work! The reason I'm quite adamant on breadboard ends is because...

Where can I buy a combination plane?

Thanks for the replies all. Have I missed something, or are combination planes a bit old fashioned now? It seems that way since they're quite hard to find and most that I do find are second hand.. They didn't indicate that was the case in my books! :?

Making breadboard ends with only hand tools?

Hi All, Trying to get my head around creating the joints for breadboard ends, but something isn't clicking. I've read several tutorials etc on the internet but they all seem to involve having a proper workshop setup. The result i'm looking for is something like this: http://tinyurl.com/4lwnq7...

Where can I buy a combination plane?

Hi all, Where can I buy a combination plane? and how much should I expect to pay? They're mentioned several times in a couple books I have but I can't find them anywhere! (well, screwfix or B&Q). Thanks, Matthew

Newbie, want to make a desk, what are my chances?

Thanks Joiner-Sim, that information is very helpful.. I had actually looked at your coffee table post before and added it to my bookmarks for future reference! looks like a great piece of work. I think I've read everything I can now, just time to get stuck in and see what happens I guess.. I'll...

Newbie, want to make a desk, what are my chances?

Not a bad idea, looked into it just now, the local college only does apprenticeships in the "Adult" courses for carpentry and joinery, and the fulltime course for furniture making is 3 days a week. I'll carry on looking, see what I can find :)

Newbie, want to make a desk, what are my chances?

Had a flick through my new books this morning, I think they cover just about everything, certainly enough to keep me busy for a long while. As far as I can tell, for the desk surface I need to join planks to build up the width, then add breadboard sides and end (as named in the complete...

Newbie, want to make a desk, what are my chances?

Thanks for all the advice so far all :) Looks like I bought the right book then wizer ;) I'll have a read through those pages tomorrow when the books arrive, many thanks. As for pictures, here's the front of one of the bedside cabinets: http://tinyurl.com/6nkxc4 The red line is where id...

Newbie, want to make a desk, what are my chances?

Thanks for the tips and encouragement Mark :) I had been to B&Q and asked about the wood, and they advised that I go to Jewsons or Buildbase to get it as they don't have the width. Not sure if you can actually get it though as most people seem to join planks as you say.. The desk top should be...
