    Stain woes

A lot of picture framers use our stains. Pine is always awkward to stain; the varying porosity in the timber allows the stain to absorb differently, causing the patch effect you have there. First off, in most cases, stain should be applied to bare wood, don't seal it first. Pine is an...

Can you apply cellulose lacquer by hand, any tips.

Late to the party as always... You're right, Richard, that the hot weather isn't your friend here. It will certainly speed up the drying time. Thanks to bobblezard for his helpful advice and tips. A cloth is ok on fairly small items, but for larger pieces a brush is much better, as you can...

    Spirit stains

Quick reply: A Cellulose Sanding Sealer is designed to be used straight from the can. If it was meant to be thinner, that's how we'd supply it! It would, after all, be unfair to supply a product then expect anyone to have to buy something else in order to be able to use it. I know that many...

    Spirit stains

It's normal for some of the stain to show on the cloth you apply the next coat with. (Which sealer did you use? Had you thinned it?) However, the real question is, are you happy with the colour you ended up with? The stain will mark the cloth, certainly, but nowhere near enough of it is removed...

    Question about Cellulose Sanding Sealer

Thank you for reminding me why I don't often take part in forums... there's always someone who thinks they know more about our products than we do. As you've said already about more modern alternatives, so it is with zinc stearate; it is not used in our Cellulose Sanding Sealer and hasn't been...

    Question about Cellulose Sanding Sealer

Richard Findley - Live Conkers Demo

An interesting idea Brian, and this has made me think about options for demos. I'd need to speak to demonstrators as well. So, a quick straw poll...think about the cost of buying a DVD etc, and the charges for other on-line demos... If we found a system for making the demos available AFTER...

Richard Findley - Live Conkers Demo

Thanks Richard. When we've got a few more demos under our belt (we've got them booked up to May next year so far!) we'll look into options. I'll pass on your comments to Richard!

Richard Findley - Live Conkers Demo

'transatlantic' has got it in one, and thanks for understanding. Demonstrators like Richard have had a huge chunk of their income taken away from them by not being able to give demos at clubs and various shows. Some have invested in the equipment needed to give online demos (and that's not...

    Sanding sealer

It can never hurt to put a sealer on first, but if you're planning to use a primer anyway the difference in the end result will be minimal.

    Sanding sealer

That's not really helpful as there are many different waxes commonly available, often designed to do different things. So, here's the very long answer... Properly applied, and undiluted, a sealer does everything it's meant to do (as above) and prepares the timber ready for the next coating...
