    Bench or no bench?

I have a big load of beech. I bought it a while back to make a garden bench in one of Nick Gibb's books. Only when looking at the amount of wood, I'm not so sure. It'd be an enormous bench. The top would be 1525x420x75 mm. That's a chunky bench. It'd be very easy to make, but I'm wondering if I...

    BLO won't cure

I gave a couple of oak stools their last coat of BLO (for a while) a week ago and they are still tacky. Am I being impatient or is something wrong? If I did just put too much on what's the solution? Wait or do something? If something, what thing?

    Competition WIP - End Table

A while back I foolishly promised the following: In my head this means something like: Only with smaller rails on the front as I want the drawer to take up a larger proportion of that space. Thinner legs as well. And a lighter finish, but not too light. The colour of aged cherry maybe. A...

    Dovetail Marking Lines

I recently made a bookcase out of some reclaimed teak. I dovetailed it as a way to learn how to cut them and, after quite a few attempts, it went reasonably. The lines though are really quite visible. Is this normal and/or desirable? I couldn't sand them out. Was I just far to aggressive with...

    Spend my money

Ive been woodworking for the last year with a combination of inherited tools and a few Axminster purchases. If all goes correctly I should be getting £300 back from the tax-man in a couple of weeks. This gives me the opportunity to plan, and then hopefully buy some nice shiny tools. Let me...

    WIP: oak occasional stools

Well I've been teaching myself woodwork with the aid of a small set of inherited tools, some Axminster purchases and a book by Nick Gibbs. I'd got to the "occasional oak stools" project and obtained the wood. It just happened that when admiring the beautiful oak I realised that, due to minimum...
