    Laser cutting

Thanks again, I think that price will; be a factor for me. As I am getting older - 88 next month I need to think what benefit I will get and how easy it is to get started - brian doesn't like too many new tasks. I will have a look at YouTube G

    Laser cutting

Thank you both for taking the trouble to reply in so much detail. I am attaching a few photos of my bits and pieces that I have made over the years. I have seen laser cutters priced as low as £300, would these cut 9mm ply and if so would the burnt edges have to be cleaned up? The black edges can...

    Laser cutting

I know nothing about CNC other than what the initials stand for. I have a 2000 version of Autocad, I don't suppose that it is as easy as drawing a pattern and the cutter will follow it!!!! I enjoy scroll saw work to raise funds for charities but with deteriorating eyesight I am looking at...

    Signing work

My inkjet printer will print on CD's. I drew a 1"circle on my PC with my name inside it. and copied it a few times. I cut a circle CD size in a piece of 1/32 ply and printed the names on it. I used a Forstener drill to cut a shallow recess, in the turned bowl and cut out the small circle and...

    Curved door

Many years ago, wanting to make a curved door I calculate that if I used coopered [panels and was 1/4 of a degree out My door radius would be out by over an inch. I developed this method using a router table and i think, three cutters. It is still in use and the PVA glue is doing its job. The...

    New member from South Cheshire

Hi, am I the oldest new member? Probably at 87. I was not allowed to take my woodwork GCSE exam as I couldn't plane wood flat! When I was about 30 we needed a built-in wardrobe and had seen plans for one and also an advert for a Coronet Minor universal machine that included a 4" planer. There...
