Nice finish metal screw caps or file down rods for circular wooden shelving?

Thanks I hadn't considered that. I am planning on doing other versions in bare wood and just oiled and the like with different plugs. The scorched version, I was going to heavily scorch to make it almost jet black so it will have all sorts of cracks and mottling. I don't think it will be a...

Nice finish metal screw caps or file down rods for circular wooden shelving?

I considered that and yeah I'm look for a flush finish which I think you could achieve with them but I can't find any in the regeion of 8mm or so diameter. Shelves are only 16mm

Nice finish metal screw caps or file down rods for circular wooden shelving?

Thanks. I did want a metal plug finish though not wood as I am going to be doing a deep burn on the unit so it's almost jet black and I wanted the contrast of brass or brushed steel. I think what I'll do is what you say and countersink and plug with timber that is NOT scorched to provide...

Nice finish metal screw caps or file down rods for circular wooden shelving?

Hello all.. I'm building a round framed shelving unit. I was going to use brass or stainless still dowels to lock it all together. I have reconsidered this and decided to use screws as the due the stresses on the bent boards and the fact that I will be scorching the whole thing which will...

    Restored bookshelf Shou Sugi Ban

Not that I could discern. All I can smell ATM is a fishy smell which I presume is the linseed oil.

    Restored bookshelf Shou Sugi Ban

Hello all. I've nearly restored this bookshelf and I do like the look. However, the finish is both mat and shiny at the moment. It has had x2 coats of raw linseed oil. I do like the matt look but I would like more uniformity. I have wiped off thorough and re sanded the entire thing in...

Is it worth trying to repair these Teak chairs?

I'm contemplating having it as a side project and using it myself and just slowly restoring it properly and then PU sealing it and looking after it and just keeping it for myself. I will have to hand tenon multiple pieces and scarf joint or brass rod about 5 legs plus sand the bejesus out of it...

Is it worth trying to repair these Teak chairs?

Awesome feedback. I hadn't considered that fact. This is a larger project so I am going to continue to think on it. I have a pine bookshelf that will look great charred. And I also have Osmo oil. If I was going to char the Teak for outdoor use I was going to have to buy Polyurethane oil...

Is it worth trying to repair these Teak chairs?

Not really bothered about that. Just trying to turn around an item that I paid £130 for 6 chairs with cushions and a table and make it look nice and a few hundred quid I do agree but this has been painted with Ducks Back wax enriched preserver and god knows how many times it's been jet washed...

Is it worth trying to repair these Teak chairs?

Thanks. I'm wondering how Ronseal 2 part wood filler will like being torched. I'll do a test sample. I have a few small parts that need complete replacing and tennonising (is that a word) I wonder if using Oak instead of Teak would hurt being as I plan to torch the timber? Obviously Teak is...

Is it worth trying to repair these Teak chairs?

Which brings my next question. Will filler show obviously or cause any problems with Shou Sugi Ban scorching? Hmm

Is it worth trying to repair these Teak chairs?

Hi all. Yes I know you aren't supposed to jet wash but they have Ducks back on them and I don't have a spare year to sand it off. I have 4 that are relatively intact and 2 that would require purchasing some teak and a lot of tennoning. Probably I'll need to take good legs off them and...
