    Axminster AW305WL - I'm sniffing the bait.

I have one of these lathes for sale in the ‘for sale’ forum. It’s the older style branding, but the same spec machine. I’ve been very happy with it, and would be keeping it indefinitely if I hadn’t been given another lathe. Pm me if you would like to discuss it

    Sold Wood Lathe Axminster AH-1218VS

This is the model that is currently branded by Axminster as AW305WL. In full working used condition 4 prong drive and live centre included. Knob on the motor pulley access door has broken off (see photos) but does not affect use, which is why I never replaced it. Collection Newbury £200

    Electric socket failed

Left side (that failed) had a freezer permanently plugged in, right side, occasionally a tumble drier, or various tools (eg router). It didn’t fail with the freezer plugged in, but after wires removed and replaced, Freezer is ok, ran all night off another socket, and is now running ok off the...

    Electric socket failed

I had to disconnect a double socket in my garage/workshop. Reconnected the wires live in/out, neutral in/out, earth in/out. Using socket tester, right hand socket tests ok, left hand socket trips out. I think this must be the socket failing as everything else tests ok. I’ve left it turned...

Suggestions for a woodworking lathe tool set for a beginner

These look like good value, and look very similar, if not identical to the Axminster branded set I picked second hand for a similar price. There is an RDG tools 5% discount code somewhere on this site if you search for it. If I was starting from scratch again I would buy these...

Another mystery tool, maybe not so mysterious!

Could it be for stretching webbing or springs in furniture upholstery?

    It never happens in Europe!

I was in Malmo, southern Sweden for work. One night it snowed, so woke up to about to 6 inches of snow. The result was almost exactly the same as it would have been here in England. Traffic halted, no taxis, people late for work, trains very disrupted, flights from nearby airport very disrupted...

    Salt and pepper mill mechanisms

If turned by yourself, you can select quality ceramic mechanisms, with metal connecting rods. Also if the mechanism were to fail, you can tap it out and replace it. Made a pepper mill with ceramic mechanism for my son and DiL who favour it over their Peugeot.

    Salt and pepper mill mechanisms

Definitely crush grind. There are some very good guides on Axi website to drilling dimensions and positioning the recesses for the mechanisms to clip into place. It’s worth getting the recess cutting tool, although expensive for a one trick pony

    Circular Saw stopping

If it’s the original blade that came with the saw, you will get a lot more work out of it than stated in your OP. I would replace the battery with a min 4ah version, before looking a replacing the blade. It solved the problem for me

I should have read the Unicorn’s post more carefully!

    Circular Saw stopping

I have the same model Dewalt saw, and had the same problem. I found that a 4ah battery solved the problem. For some reason the smaller batteries don’t have enough grunt

    Tenon saw sharpen service

I sent my late dad’s tenon saw to Jacob’s saw revival. He did a brilliant job, recut and sharpened. This is the link, although I noticed they are not taking new customers until they have cleared a backlog. No connection other than being a satisfied customer https://jakobssawrevival.co.uk
