    Leather honing belt for proedge

Thanks for that Rhossyd, I have looked on some US carving sites that have suggestions for more experiments including speed reduction. This morning brought an Amazon package for the 1" belt sander with a very quick to clip on angle table. Search: Knife Sharpening Angle Guide fits 1X30 Belt Sander...

    Leather honing belt for proedge

I wonder if a short reverse polarity extension lead will work, another rainy day job to experiment. I bought a Pro edge for woodturning and am moving on to general edge sharpening, The Motam and Hewn & Hone jigs are great. On the mini the leather belts and metalworking belts from Super Strop on...

    Leather honing belt for proedge

Very expensive one available for the Axminster machine which at least will turn in both directions. I opted to fit one of the 1" x30" belts on a small Warco belt sander machine. Again wrong direction and at 2850 rpm way faster than what i would like. My main use will be on Mora size blades, I...

Who knows what this Vise (Vice on your side of the pond) is for?

The Thompson name is associated with fishing, could it be an unusual bit to work with their more usual fly tying stuff? Whatever it is it would appear to be for delicate eye level operation.

    Needing a new plane iron for a 5 1/2

I bought several of the Rider irons at bargain price and am more than happy with them.

    Spoon carving mule

I searched for ideas for supporting a spoon securely. Pinterest offers inspirational images but little substance. I found a suitable size plank shaped it, added the corded foot grip and used 6mm plastic dowels. I work sat on the mule on top of a chair or stool. Using a carving hook soon revealed...

A page from my Aircraft Made in Lincoln book. Who needs you tube, the 1915 picture shows all of the process. Walnut and mahogany characteristics complemented each other There was an animal glue factory adjacent to the Ruston Proctor works. Rustons made several thousand propellers during the...

New or old vintage drawknife ?

In the Great War propellers were shaped using spokeshaves until replaced by pantograph copy shapers in 1918. The blades were laminated, alternate Mahoghany Walnut cut to template shape, then glued and spokeshaved. The correct profile was at the laminate joint. The propeller would then be balanced

How I charged an old removable mobile phone battery

I think the last I recharged was a small 1.5 amp18v DeWalt, Just identify the + and - terminals and tape insulated wires between another fully charged 18 or 21v battery to form a circuit. I usually would do this outside on a table for 15 minutes keeping an eye on it. Then return the battery to...

    Cheap Systainers!

Agree, DeWalt are polypropylene more forgiving and almost as strong as brittle ABS, no weak corners and plastic connectors With hindsight the Tough system might be even better with seals.

How I charged an old removable mobile phone battery

Having retired from the photographic trade I have a long experience of lithium cells. The problem is the matching "smart" charger is designed not to charge if the battery has drained below a certain voltage. The answer is to look for another charging method to bypass that charger. Use the "jump...

    Cheap Systainers!

Strange that the other John Pye Branches aren't offering these. Perhaps they were all held in a large warehouse in Wales, at least the going price for us not so local should hold. I decided to cover the "biological substance " lettering with tape. I guess the lucky South Wales bidders...

    Tenon Saw Problem

If you can't free it and decide to drill out, Thomas Flinn sell the various types of replacement screws, but expensive with postage costs. I wonder if you could very carefully drill a 1.5mm bore to get penetrating oil into the right spot.

    Cheap Systainers!

My two arrived this morning with only central tape banding and wrapped in black commercial cling wrap. Two corners shattered and two base T-loc lugs broken in transit due to abysmal packaging. A quick wipe with hot soapy water soon removed the muck from storage

    Diamond Belt sticks against plate?

If it is a case of the larger raised Sorby back plate having previously been added I think it can be identified by a couple of allen nuts on the plate or by the larger size. (The Hewn &Hone equivalent I use doesn't have this.) The two plates can be seen here...

    Prezzion Pizza

I bought an electric pizza oven, use it in the back garden and ehu on campsites. Best pizzas ever. There are various makes, they have all circular element rings top and bottom, which is not too good for a frozen pizza. Better to go for the type where the ring has another little squiggle in the...
