How to clean up old wood.

It was, but isn't now. The amount of dead wood knocked of was substantial plus I'll treat it again before finishing it. Personally I think it adds to character, but that's my personal opinion.

How to clean up old wood.

Here you go, don't laugh though, it's my 1st attempt at anything like this. I'm hoping it will make a decent shelf or mantle piece on complete. Thanks

How to clean up old wood.

Would you just rub that solution on the wood with a cloth to clean it? I have been advised to use a 50/50 mix of Osmo/ Osmo Thinners to treat the wood after the clean up, do you think this will be ok? Thanks, Rob.

How to clean up old wood.

Hi Ian, it was just something that came to mind while I was using a small glue brush to get into the tight bits. Just got some 80 grit paper and sharpened up a point, works great and it's softer wood than the Oak so doesn't damage it 👍. Thanks, Rob.

How to clean up old wood.

Hi, I've got some old 18th century oak lintals that I want to clean up, they have loads of character and will look great. I've used a wire brush to take off the old dead wood and cleaned as much as I can with a sharpened brush handle and various brushes, but I there is more cleaning to do before...

    Kity 1637 Planer/ Thicknesser stripdown.

Can anyone help? I really want to crack on and get this done tomorrow so help is really appreciated. Is the grey colour just aluminium oxidation or do I need to get through this level to clean metal? The last picture is a table that I've started but stopped while I get advice. I've used 120 grit...

    Kity 1637 Planer/ Thicknesser stripdown.

Hi, so all my machines have a dark grey colour to the tables and you can see the marks in them from when they were made. How far do I sand these down before you'd be happy with them? Back to the bare Aluminium? Thanks, Rob.

    Kity 1637 Planer/ Thicknesser stripdown.

Hi, next and hopefully last question. Cleaning up the tables and the best practice to do so. I have read that an orbital sander can be used with grit grades P80, P180, P400 and finally P1200, then a metal polish before waxing (I have Liberian Lubricating Wax). I also have some 3M Scotchbrite...

    Kity 1637 Planer/ Thicknesser stripdown.

Hi, thanks for your posts. The rollers can't be adjusted I don't think as the bottom position is set in the casting. They then have approx 10mm movement up looking at the photos attached. This resistance of this movement is what can be adjusted via the springs. I'll be in a position to try the...

    Kity 1637 Planer/ Thicknesser stripdown.

Spoke to Dave and he wasn't sure if there is anything specific, so has advised to set them up at their minimum, test the machine and adjust if necessary. Thanks.

Hi, Photos attached. The spring just sits in the carrier on top of the rollers, there is preload to get the hex screw into the threads on the body. Thanks.

    Kity 1637 Planer/ Thicknesser stripdown.

Hi, a quick question on the feed/ output roller spring adjustment before I put the panels back on. I assume that they just wind out to the point where the panel screws will stop them from unwinding and further. Is this correct or slow there a more accurate way to get the spring tension...

    Kity 1637 Planer/ Thicknesser stripdown.

Hi, thanks for your messages. The belt is on order and should be here this coming week, as are the new blades and equipment to clean and set the tables. I'm hoping the bearings are OK, everything feels ok and smooth with no play, I checked when it was all stripped down, but once I get it started...

    Kity 1637 Planer/ Thicknesser stripdown.

Thanks, Yes I've checked out the set up procedure and I've ordered a meter rule and dial guage to get the tables accurate. I've also got some cleaning and waxing products ordered. I've used a bearing grease in the feed/ exit roller bushings, this should be ok I think. I'm just about to clean...

    Kity 1637 Planer/ Thicknesser stripdown.

Good morning, The machine was in pretty poor condition cosmetically so over the last 2 days I have removed all moving parts except the motor, cleaned and lubricated all the drivechain and belts. The feed roller, cutter block and exit roller we all in poor condition with quite a bit of surface...

    Kity 1637 Planer/ Thicknesser stripdown.

Hi, this is my 1st post so be gentle. I'm just starting out with woodworking and I've bought a Kity 1637 planer that needs a little work to bring it up to scratch. I want to strip it back to give it a good clean and lubrication and to clean up the cutter block that has been left to go a bit...
