    Damp in garage wall

It seems there is a cavity.....though not an interior stud wall wall. The way a brickie will clear the small cavity of mortar is to hang a rope horizontally below his work and pull it up to periodically clear the gap. Re-looking at the photo the slab looks 'rough as guts and has no membrane.The...

    Damp in garage wall

Yes...it's quite possibly just condensation...unless water is being channeled along in such manner as to hold water against exposed brick or above the concrete slab surface. In amongst the wild suggestions which I glanced-through including a massive trench and so on I may have missed some...

    Damp in garage wall

I mentioned the information given in the was sparse. Rising damp should be be easily tracked when there is no inner wall at all and repairing the situation very simple as access is unrestricted. I covered all bases in a very readable style with information indicating rip tear and bust and racing...

    Damp in garage wall

You still have unknowns. Likely is that the slab itself has not been properly waterproofed. Damp course isn't always on the slab...it could be a course or two higher...but it should be there nevertheless. I'm giving a lot of experience in here...and instead of looking at other people's places I...

    Electrical problem with thicknesser

Off the topic...presuming others see what I see when opening the forum ..having 75% of it hidden under advertisements is really irritating...one has to sign-in to get rid of the adverts. Is this a forum arrangement, for money? My Regards

    Electrical problem with thicknesser

Sorry then...I thought that you wrote it was 'screaming'. If your workshop is dusty at all with sawdust or hasa 'bad' sawdust collector I advise you keep doors and windows open to dilute the air-sawdust mixture.

    Electrical problem with thicknesser

Hi Trevanion...couple of responses...thanks for the reply, what I wrote will also be as in UK but maybe in a different set of descriptors. (Hamlet via Shakespeare and the Shelley extract are British ... so I can claim some local relativity...(chuckles)) Ok got you on the brush motors...which...

    Electrical problem with thicknesser

I should have added another possibility, which attempting to run the machine from assuredly another circuit might discover. If there is a standing load on the circuit you are using the start attempt by your machine motor might bring the circuit to exceed the current rating of the breaker...

    Electrical problem with thicknesser

The solution may depend on the type of motor...is it a brush'd motor or not?....did you previously see any sparking?... Such a motor would be highly dangerous in a woodworking environment. It is more likely to be a totally enclosed motor (commonly TEFC).You do not have RCD's...which should be...

Does Builder need permission to connect new house to sewer on my land?

Easy to pontificate on 'peace to all men' and 'love they neighbour...open your arms and heart to being abused' , however this is a serious breach of the man's rights to his land and the bullies should be sent off...We all though protesting 'democracy' fantasy are in denial, that we don't live in...

Does Builder need permission to connect new house to sewer on my land?

I have commented elsewhere Steve on an incorrect statement you made...your last. That aside The land's value is being reduced perhaps significantly in currency value and sale-ability. You have said nothing of trespass. He should block access and make complaint to police...sticking to trespass...

Does Builder need permission to connect new house to sewer on my land?

To impose a restriction negotiations should occur to the point you are seriously compensated. Your difficulty arises when it (pipe laying)happens and you want it removed. You do have remedy at court. Your decision (capitulation) can affect all future owners Unless there is a statutory right or...

Does Builder need permission to connect new house to sewer on my land?

"they impose a restriction on that strip of land which stops you building directly over it," not only over it but within some metres of it...and access will be forceable IF there is an easement created. The behaviour of the 'builder' is not unusual for plumber-drainers who are used to bullying...

Does Builder need permission to connect new house to sewer on my land?

Not correct..not 'chips' the pipe should have been laid on 100% consolidated sand..thickness of sand support...depends on weight and size of pipe but start with say ten inches. 100% consolidation normally achieved by flooding the sanded trench

    Help choosing circular saw

Perhaps a good present could include safety power outlets in his (if exists) workshop. If in construction he may already have safety boots. Not all chisels are made to be hammered and mine are essentially used in paring and cleaning works. Don't buy those Stanleys with the grey (?)...

Drilling a straight 20mm hole through 250mm oak gate post.

just a rounding...at that top hinge height these are not farm gates and could be steel aluminium of timber, so weight is uncertain. The coach bolt may do the job quite well...I've used them into timber strainers on 12 ft 6 farm gates. Using bolts...If you don't want any break-in...sink the...

    Dangers of Wire wool

The narrowness or narrowing of the conductor is the way some gls fuses are manufactured. Allowing a calibration through less or more material removed it gives manufacturers the scope to produce several current ratings in fusible links. One might question how batteries become available in...

Drilling a straight 20mm hole through 250mm oak gate post.

You can readily (after drilling the holes, adjust post height before fixing it into the ground, in alignment with the other post....That's a common way of doing the job however if averse to it as it seems and some good suggestions have come through for use one or all together..!!... 250mm isn't...

    Dangers of Wire wool

Stinky feet can also come from "inside" whether wearing 'thongs" or flip-flops or not but getting back to it, what we are on about here is personal safety. If you are ok to risk your feet fine but some poor mug may have to to the gruesome first aid and other the surgery owing to the stupidity...
