    Drill Bit Advice

These Erbaurer bits from Screwfix are good. I used them for drilling out stainless screws recently.

    Tracksaw

Another vote for the Makita sp6000. I've had mine for about 3 years and it's been very good. I have a Makita track but I think you can use the cheaper Evolution ones.

Portable MFT and track saw or Mitre saw and workmate for fitting/making utility room

Nick I made this folding stand and homemade MFT top. It provides quite a sturdy solution although it is a bit over engineered. I made it predominantly for my track saw and cutting sheet materials but it's useful as as assembly bench too. I have to work outside quite a lot due to lack of space...

under stairs pull out drawer sag

Matt, thanks for that. I have used dominos but using the router which can be a bit fiddly. I was thinking of adding dowels after the event for a little extra strength. I appreciate the advice.👍

under stairs pull out drawer sag

Matt they look good, I have something similar to do for my daughter, what is the construction of the drawers? I too was going to use 18mm ply with pocket screws. I practiced on my workshop drawers all be it a much smaller scale and used the chamfer Idea to good effect. These drawers are 12mm...

    Fire door advice

They have had a garage conversion done, fully insulated, roof raised and redone, floor dug up and re-layed to meet regulations. Until this point they have seemed ok. But it's been difficult to get them to fit the door as it's the last part of the job and they have already been paid...

    Fire door advice

Hi My daughter has just had this fire door fitted by her builder between the garage and kitchen. I am shocked by the workmanship, none of the hardware is rebated and I believe the frame was fitted with the seal rebates on the wrong side. It now has these additional strips. I know that hinges...

    Straightening warped T square

Agreed on a practical note it's probably not worth it. However rather than just abandon it I thought I'd try and make use of it, and it'll keep me out of trouble for a couple of hours. 😁

    Straightening warped T square

I've acquired an old T square, similar to the type I used to use in TD at school. As you can see it's a bit warped, any tips on how to straighten it? I was thinking of soaking in water and clamping to my aluminium spirit level until dry. I could then refinish the edges on the router table and...

cleaning rust from machine tools ?

I've had good results with distilled white vinegar, soak for a couple of days then rinse and clean up with a washing up sponge (the green rough bit). It removes surface rust and seems better on higher quality steel. I then apply some micro crystalline wax.

    Scheppach table saw motor

Thanks, the motor will cost £150, so I'm doing just that.👍

    Starter table saw

MikeJhn and Not -Entirely-Useless. For one off cuts the track saw is fine, I was thinking the table saw would need less setting up for multiple pieces of the same size that are outside the mitre saw capability. I have a home made router table but thought the table saw may be a bit quicker and...

There's a segment missing from the commutator unfortunately.

    Starter table saw

Thanks for your comments, they've been most helpful, the spec I'm looking for is as follows. Budget up to £150. Blade diameter 200 or 250mm. Table size up to roughly 500mm square. Stand not essential, I will store under the bench and take out when I need it, either on the bench or some sort of...

The replacement motor for the HS100S is £150, so about this price, give or take. Thanks for the suggestions.

    Starter table saw

Thanks Jameshow, I'll keep a look out. The other brand I see at reasonable prices are Ferm, what is the quality of these like?

    Starter table saw

Spectric, thanks for the reply. I've added a little more detail to the original post but mostly light work on softwoods and plywood sheet etc. I suppose the honest answer going forward is I don't know until I start using one. I have a track saw and a good mitre saw so it is to fill any shortfall...
