    Wood flooring identification

Does anyone have an idea what kind of wood this flooring is? Both are quite dense, around 900kg/cu m. On my screen the color looks pretty close. The one on the left is brown with a hint of red in the medium dark areas. The one on the right is very red. It was laid with bitumen, so it is quite old.

    Removing bitumen from recycled flooring

I have some recycled flooring that was originally laid with bitumen that I need to remove. I was thinking to get a mechanic's part washer, fill it with white spirit, soak it for a while and then brush it off. Has anyone tried this? Anyone have any better way to remove it? I plan to screw it down...

    Ornamental plasterwork

Is there anyone near Norwich that in addition to woodwork, dabbles in ornamental plasterwork for a hobby? I would be interested in trading molds and models. This is the kind of stuff I am thinking about (from previous projects) .

Anyone know what wood this is?

These are pics of the front door of a 1930s house in Norwich. I think it must have been common wood for exterior doors, since some neighbors that have original doors look the same.

Router bits to make old windows

I need to make some replacement windows for a 1930s house. I think the profile is called ovolo, but the roundover is circular, it is deeper in one direction. In the picture on the left the A distance is around 1/2 (~5mm) of the B distance (~10mm). Does anyone know where one can buy a matching...

Router lift for horizontal router table

I used to have a small horizontal router table in my previous shop that I mostly used for mortising to make wood paneling and small cupboard doors. I seem to remember that I saw it in some woodworking magazine, and they called it a mortising table. It had two tables about the same size fixed at...

Workshop build, wood frame on concrete foundation

I moved to Norwich last year and bought a 1930s detached house that is a bit of a wreck and the first thing I needed was a workshop. We have a deep yard about 9 meters wide, so I thought to use the workshop to divide the yard. I had in mind something that would look like this when viewed from...

    Workshop walls

I am building a workshop (4m x 7.5m internal size) on top of this: It is framed in 150mm which I plan to insulate with fiberglass or rockwool. I don't plan to heat it continuously, only when I am doing work that requires it. What to put on the walls? My first thought would be drywall, but in...

    Router table

I am looking to buy a router table, and would like something sturdy (and heavy) with a sliding table. Something like the Record RPMS-R or Charnwood W015, they look very similar, both are heavy with cast iron tables, but they don't seem to make the Record any more. Does anyone have any...

    Suggestions for Thicknesser

I am looking for a thicknesser for my home workshop, at least 10" wide with a spiral cutterhead. So far I have found the Axminster AT260SPT and the iTech 260S, both a bit above the 1500GBP mark. Are there any other similar machines available in the UK? I would not mind buying used, but it...

    Cabinet

New to the forum, new to the UK, thought I should post something. Here is a cabinet I made when I first started to become interested in woodworking. The finish is linseed oil and shellac, and the leaded glass was with copper foil. Sadly I had to leave it behind in Canada. Never did quite finish...
