Huge Brass Foot Pump, The Kismet Duplex Garage

I know exactly what you mean ! There are probably quite a few of us afflicted by the 'collect and renovate if needed' bug. That's why a few weeks ago I bought a WW2 compass in it's original box for just £10. It is already in A1/unmolested condition and was theoretically standard Air Ministry...

    KISMET Military pump

Thanks Pete. Will try that. [ never had any problem in the past with Photobucket - but that site is now somewhat flawed ...] MrTeroo. I'm a bit surprised that is all I 'left off' ! At the time PB was blocking much of the information needed for links.

Huge Brass Foot Pump, The Kismet Duplex Garage

Will have to try and open a new Flickr account as Photobucket is in a very poor state. Your restorations - and the quality of your photos - are truly remarkable.

    KISMET Military pump

Just found red rubber hose on fleabay. Long enough to do the subject pump AND the Trolley Compressor - and have some left over. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-4-9m-30ft-A ... 1800410722

    KISMET Military pump

Just read on Photobucket site that many others are having exactly the same problems despite PB claiming yesterday to have 'fixed it'. And I thought it was me. What sites do you use ? I used to use Flickr. Not sure why I changed.

    KISMET Military pump

The brass label on the wooden handle states "Title - Pump Pressurising" Typical military speak - I suppose you could have added 'Aircraft - for the use of' !! But then this one only has a Crown Property arrow. BTW Is it fair to assume that the KISMET type number was "K82A" ...

1944 Kismet Air Ministry Foot Pump

As you know I'm trying to scotch suggestions that foot pumps were 'used on the pneumatic systems of Spifires'. To be fair the wording on vintagepumps.co.uk is not clear/accurate. >> "Several types of KISMET pump were issued in the tool kits of quality cars such as Rolls Royce and Bentley. They...

Huge Brass Foot Pump, The Kismet Duplex Garage

I think I'll try and open a new thread for the Kismet Military pump - for the photo uploads.

Huge Brass Foot Pump, The Kismet Duplex Garage

Glad I didn't upset you ! [But - rather like Wikipedia - duff information travels round the internet world quite quickly. Not sure where "foot pumps/Spitfires" started but from an engineering standpoint it doesn't stack up. If your life depended on guns operating and flaps/ brakes for safe...

Huge Brass Foot Pump, The Kismet Duplex Garage

Sorry to join - and then pour cold water on a theory. But to suggest footpumps (Duplex or otherwise) were used for pressurising Spitfire air systems is ... probably a bit wide of the mark. Kismet sold a very specific stirrup-type pump to the Ministry for this purpose. (I bought one today ...)...
