    New Veritas Combination Plane

There seems to be quite a bit of enthusiasm for this new veritas plane on the US forums, decidedly less so here, judging by this topics replies. I find that interesting, from the point of view of someone who doesn't yet own a plough/combination plane but would like one soon. Just curious if...

    Bedroom Vanity Unit

Very nice. Can I ask what you used to attach the mirror and allow it to pivot? Or any tips on doing that? I'm looking to make something similar for the Mrs.

    Upcycling

Ha, I actually considered starting a thread on this when I first saw it, but decided no, I would save you lot from what I had to see. The upcycling thread pushed me over the edge, sorry... Was thinking the same thing, one of you rich woodworker needs to buy it, restore it to it's original...

    Upcycling

Haha! Yet to experience that myself, maybe I should buy the "lamp" Sadly, someone will probably buy it. I can't bring myself to search eBay for Hand Planes since I found this - that was enough ebaying for that day...

Bench Legs and Castors which are too big!

I know you have bought castors already, but I got these for my hardwood bench and a bit more expensive than most but they are very good. Allows the bench to sit on it's legs when in use and then lower the castors when u need to move it. http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-wo ... ors-507151

    Which powertool to get first?

As a beginner myself, my first question here was similar to yours. What table saw, Mitre saw, band saw should I get for my budget. I got some good advice, for sure, but after a bit of thinking and a bit more research I realised I was getting ahead of myself and wanted to be an expert from day...

    Jack Planes?

Yes thanks a lot for all your input. Have to say, I like the idea of a hand grinder, I've avoided anything with a plug so far, not because I wouldn't like any power tools but just because I haven't had the need yet. There don't seem too be many for sale, after an initial quick search, but I'll...

    Jack Planes?

Yes, Wouldn't attempt anything without the honing guide at this stage. Just took a quick look at the woodies irons last night and they definitely need a bit of work, tho the wooden bodies are in good shape, may well attempt that by hand just to experience it! Thanks for the tips on the surface...

    Jack Planes?

Also a very interesting back and forth discussion above on the pros and cons of the thicker vs thinner irons. For the record, I have been using scary sharp successfully with my chisels and would continue using this in future for plane irons etc, though not ruling out a different method as time...

    Jack Planes?

First, can I thank everyone for the very detailed replies, very helpful and encouraging for a newbie like myself. Interesting to see others experiences and what they might do differently if starting out again. A 5 or 5 1/2 seems to be largely personal preference and I would get a few blades...

    Jack Planes?

I'm looking into getting my first bench plane, a good all rounder. I've been searching here and elsewhere as to what hand plane to get first. Opinions differ of course, somewhere between a No4 - 5 1/2 is generally recommended and I think I have settled on a Jack Plane. I have decided to buy...

Help me choose a first plane?

Can't help u at all, just wanted to say I'm in a very similar position and so very interested in the feedback on this also... I Had decided on the quangsheng 5 1/2 as my first handplane, however, as my folks are headed to the US in a few months, I'm considering getting them to bring me back a...

    Insulating pitched garage roof?

Thanks all for the input. I will be doing the walls also, but I'm happy about the approach to take there. Vents are a concern I had, and something I know little about. No vents in the wood/pvc soffit at the minute, and I could only fit them to one side as the garage is attached to the...

    Insulating pitched garage roof?

I have a rendered, single skin block garage with a pitched slate roof. There is a membrane between the slated and the rafters which I don't believe is permeable... I am looking at insulating the garage, as cheaply as possible, just to make it a bit more comfortable and so I can heat it to...

Thanks, that sounds like a good option, don't suppose you took any pictures of the build?

    shed build base?

You're not wrong! But that's 3 ton of rubble to go out with a few buckets and a spade, I'll be here until christmas! Was looking for the next best option. I do like the gumtree idea tho, thanks.
