    Wpa2

I guess this is well known, but just in case anyone was asleep ... https://www.wired.com/story/krack-wi-fi ... ty-broken/ We’ve given up with WiFi (including broadband) completely and have instead acquired a squadron of semaphore trained carrier pigeons :)

    Axminster 2030 lathe

Just in case anyone is interested, I noticed the above lathe is reduced from £3k to £2.2k today (13/10/17)..making it only about £300 more than the 1628. Seems like a good discount to me!

White vs Ruby vs CBN wheels

I'm still thinking of moving from white wheels to cbn but someone suggested ruby would be better for chisels. I guess this might be to do with grit grades rather than density or 'frangibility' (is that a cake?) of material ...but don't really know (and the suggestion wasn't one I could follow...

    Acrylic on oil

Made an oak thing (on a lathe) and dunked in tung oil. Was thinking of using acrylic spray can over the tung. How long should I wait before applying the acrylic ? ..until the tung has fully cured (how long is that ? A week, two?) or just until the tung is dry? Thanks

24" bowl turner ...buy or build?

While my Record dml320 is great, it has it's limitations..primarily the 10" max diameter over the banjo and insufficient power& spindle strength to take a 35kg oval device. I cant see any realistic situations where I'm going to want to turn anything more than 20" diameter, so a 24" over the bed...

    Drill for lathe power sanding

Now I'm making larger items on the late I'm fed up with hand sanding interior and exterior..plus my finger joints are starting to hurt (probably pressing too much). I've looked at arbors on a stick but think I'd prefer a drill + arbor Can anyone who uses drill + arbor for sanding on lathes...

    Tailstock in the way...

I think I know the answer to this but my experience is that just because I think I knw something that doesnt make me right! I'm trying to specify a larger lathe for myself, primarily to take the Volmer Oval Device for oval turning. I expect though that I'll also want to use it for regular...

    Powered Respirators for woodturning

I've been using a 3m half mask with a separate visor to date but, after some discussion in another group, have finally understood why a powered respirator might be a good idea for me (simple : easier to breathe..so its less tiring after an hour or so) I've considered the 3m versaflow powered...

    Turning green yew

Our village church has a 700 year old yew tree which was visited by the tree surgeon today for some 'minor' lower branch removal. I've been lucky enough to be given a piece, about 9ft by (variably) 4"x3" .. cut into three lengths of about 3ft each, bark on. Obviously I've sealed the ends with...

    Dream lathe

What's yours ? If you had enough space and could be given any lathe ...what would it be ? A big old Wadkin with modern speed control, an American Beauty, a Jet 3520, or are you really just happy with your 20+ year old bomb proof piece of kit ? As for me .. I'm still reflecting on it!

    Spindle thread

Can anyone help please? M33 3.5 headstock spindle threads.. are there more than one type ? I think I once heard that Woodfast or Vicmarc m33 3.5 threads were somehow different from Uk m33 3.5 threads. Vicmarc seem to offer three different m33 3.5 thread options .. UK, EU, US .. can anyone...
