    F R Archer, Sheffield

Hi I've picked up an unusual 'T' shaped screwdriver marked 'F R Archer, Sheffield' on one side and 'Registered 2611274'. It looks like a boxwood handle and is a pretty good quality tool. Trouble is I can't find anything on the maker. There's a Lehmann, Archer & Co.Ltd with one of the directors...

Robert Sorby - 3 CROWNS logo

Hi Andy and thanks for your quick response to my query. I've had a look on the link and the book looks great but I can't find it for sale on the TATHS site. There's a copy on eBay for £100 but I'm not sure I can run to that !! Thanks anyway, I appreciate your help...

Robert Sorby - 3 CROWNS logo

Robert Sorby (and all the other Sorby dynasty spin offs) often leaves me going round in circles trying to date various hand tools (usually chisels !!) Regarding this early looking Robert Sorby saw on eBay... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132098488275? ... 1555.l2649 It features 3 CROWNS, as well...

    Herring LONDON

Hi Don and thanks for your detailed input on this subject. This original post has had quite a few reads but only one response, so maybe the desired information is, as you suggest, nigh on impossible to source. I still think somebody out there will have a clearer stamped version of this 'Herring'...

    Herring LONDON

As ever I've picked up a carving chisel that's got me scratching my head. My LIMITED knowledge of such things extends to merely knowing of HERRING Bros of London, descended from W.Herring of Sheffield. The chisel I have bought is stamped with an indistinct "initial" prior to "HERRING" over...

    "WILLIAMS" of LONDON ??

Andy, that's brilliant information and exactly what I was looking for. Just goes to show that for all its worth, the internet has its limits - although without it I wouldn't be having this conversation and would still be none the wiser !!! Dusty old books and digital ether in perfect harmony...

    "WILLIAMS" of LONDON ??

Hi I'm trying to research an old Coachmaker's Router Plane (adjustable) but I'm having no luck. The maker's stamp reads as follows... WILLIAMS 42 BORO Rd LONDON There is a Borough High Street in Southwark, but I can't find anything on this road name at all. I've trawled through websites...
