    Which router

Lol well I have failed to sell the guitar to the lady who wanted it so all my plotting has become irrelevant! Hopefully I can still treat myself to a titan saw and get round to building some tables (as mentioned, make what satisfies you. For some reason I'm always drawn to tables). Maybe from...

    Which router

I’d love to have a permanent power supply to the shed but unfortunately the shed isn’t really fit for it. It’s mostly made out of, guess what, pallets! I haven’t even finished closing up the sides and the wind last year got to it so the felt is already torn; not exactly somewhere you’d want...

    Which router

Ah, I just wrote a big reply but session timed out! Basically I think I’ll drop the Makita saw and get a Titan, it seems good enough at cutting but I can get Makita rail pairing, then if I make some money I can upgrade in future to a Makita and already have the rails. This would leave me...

    Which router

I want to do everything with it! Seriously though, I would like to have something powerful enough to dig a half inch mortise to 60mm in a bit of oak, but light enough to whip a 2mm chamfer around an edge and everything in between. I did a stint with a joiners and they had a 2200w festool that...

    Which router

Lol more helpful than you may think. My reasoning is I've had my guitar for 15 years so I want something of similar endurance; my hobby has just changed! I wanted the plunge saw because it has the long track capability. I know I could get a single track (or the titan of course) and save a few...

    Which router

Hi, I’m in the market for a new router. I’m in a bit of a decision fuddle though as to what path to take. I’m trying to flog my guitar for £600, £350 going towards a Makita plunge saw with two rails which is my main priority to get. So I was thinking the Makita rp1801 which I can find for £230...

Making Princess type bed for granddaughter

I think you need a specific MDF primer paint which seems available in any BnQ etc! This looks like a good guide and explanation: http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/mdf.htm

Making Princess type bed for granddaughter

To be honest I don't know much about MDF except that you need to be very careful not to split it when screwing and to give it a good priming! Considering that, I'd choose a nice sheet of plywood, you can even leave the edges stripey for a nice effect. Googling around I can't find any good...

    Oak sleepers

Hi, I'm just about done with pulling apart pallets for scruffy planks that need lots of sanding and denailing. Has anyone ever tried ripping an oak sleeper? At four inches thick I was thinking its not unfeasible to run it over a table saw (or track saw if available) one face then flip it and...

    Bucket list

Very nice! I like playing rock stuff like guns n roses etc so I'm imagining a single cut away derivative. I don't mind it not being very original, there's only so much scope for variety of shape but if it makes the right noises and plays well then I'll be happy. Of course in my head it has the...

    Bucket list

Oh yea, I'll add a real quality electric guitar too, something les Paul like because I've already got a fender. And a big solid bed, a four postery type, bit lord if the ringsy/ hobbitish.

    Bucket list

Does anyone have a list of things they want to make? Top of mine is a Morris chair, just because of how they look, I've never even sat in one! I've got a pile of oak and beech waiting for when I'm ready and skilled enough, but probably more than I need. So for inspiration I thought I'd ask...

    Mortise and tenons

Its a bosch pof1200. Specs say a depth of 55mm but I don't think I've ever come close to that! I've had it for nearly two years and not used it very much so I'm not very familiar with how it can be best used, just rounded over some things and made some channels in pieces like a photo frame. I...

    Mortise and tenons

Hmm seems I have a bit more thinking to do. Unfortunately no drill press yet, just mallet n chisel or drilling it a bit by hand and forming the insides with the chisel again. Its a good thing I asked though or i might have found my tumble dryer on its face one day! Many thanks for the help peeps

    Mortise and tenons

Well at the moment I'm thinking about a kind of table with an open end to go in my larder cupboard. One side will be open so it can go in up against the walls in one corner and the fridge slide inside it. Then on top of the table will go the tumble dryer. I did some hand chiselled mortises at...

    Mortise and tenons

Does anybody have any recommendations for the size of mortise and tenons? Im sure in school I was taught to stick to thirds i.e. if I had a leg three inches wide and a rail to attach of say 2x3, then I'd mark out the middle third and make the tenon on the rail to suit. I can't remember though...

    ALDI - TableSaw £89.99

Lol well I may have listed more cons than pros... I don't consider it a waste though, anything under a 100 quid probably won't get you what you really really want whether it be a new phone, camera, TV or anything. Maybe I'm just very enthusiastic and easily impressed by anything woodworky...

    ALDI - TableSaw £89.99

Bit old topic maybe but I bought one of these and as a novice I can say I'm fairly happy with it! Yes the top is a bit flimsy, the mitre track thing has a bit of play in it and the parallel guide seems a bit short to me but as the more I use it the better I'm getting. I'm not going to get an...
