    Holly tree?

Hi, I've heard that Holly is a bit like Sycamore, it needs to be seasoned standing up (grain vertical) this stops the dark staining. Not tried it myself, but worth a try if storing to season anyway.

How many active turners remain in UKWorkshop ?

Hi, I'm doing some turning, not much in the summer, too nice to be stuck in the workshop. So will be back at it once the weather turns and the nights draw in.

    Which course?

Thanks to all that took the time to respond to my post. A special thanks to SVB, I spent the afternoon with him in his workshop and already feel more confident now. Think I will wait a short while before booking a course, might try a 1:2:1 to help me with more specific points. Again a big...

    Which course?

Hi I have been having a go on the lathe, following Keith Rowley's book and have had a few minor victories, with a couple of reasonable small bowls to show. I now seem to be stuck and can't solve a few issues that I am having, I also feel I need a better understanding of the finer points. With...

I have a good mechanical background having been a prof race car mechanic in a the past, so sharpening doesn't phase me, and I think...

    which turning chisels????

Thanks Marcros You hit the nail on the head, until I start I'm not sure what I might need, but with no tools I can't start. I feel I should buy good quality as you need a good cutting edge to produce avoid finish. I get some longish straight branch wood, which should be OK for spindles/goblets...
