    Ah wrong choice of saw

Cheers Marcos, Certainly does make life easier with the saw on a set of wheels, can even wheel it outside into the sunshine when I want to use it now :D Wingy

    Ah wrong choice of saw

Good point! I guess I have not explained myself very well. I suppose what I am really asking is if the small bench top type of band saw are useful machines for light woodworking as my budget is going to be whatever I can sell the table saw for, around £200 I guess. Wingy

    Ah wrong choice of saw

I recently bought a table saw and am beginning to wish i had bought a band saw instead, I had forgotten just how much room a table saw takes up! Just a quick question; do you chaps think a bench top band saw would be up to the task of cutting a nice straight edge on small pieces of 3/4" ply and...

Absolute beginner, looking to refit a sail boat interior

Yes I was involved in all aspects of the build, from laying them up in the mould and fitting the keels to fitting interiors and soft furnishing, never got involved in rigging though. The Mirage boat interiors used teak (sometimes cherry) faced marine ply, finished with button polish then waxed...

Absolute beginner, looking to refit a sail boat interior

Moody 33s eh, blimey that takes me back :D I was building Mirage 27's and 29's at about that time, a very similar style of boat, mind you I think many were at about that time. This was followed by a longer spell building Prout Catamarans. Doesn't really help you but thanks for the trip down...

    Woden 192 Vice

I don't know but I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I am normally the bloke that buys stuff and gets home to find that it is broken or I could have got a new one for half the price #-o Hence my elation with actually getting a bargain for once :D Wingy

    Woden 192 Vice

Hi All, Couple of weeks back I was seeking advice regarding acquiring a second hand Record 52 vice, seemed like a good deal at £35 but unfortunately it had sold :( However, strolling around a local boot fair early this morning I happened upon this vice: Being that the fella only wanted £2...

    Ad-Vice

Hi All, I wonder if I may seek some advice, I have just finish my new bench and was going to refit my old vice, but to be honest it is tiny and not at all substantial. So after reading through this forum I have come to realise that a decent second hand vice could be the way to go, but haven't a...

    Older newbie

Thanks Chaps, The bench is just made up of 3x3 legs, 4x2 frame and the top is 4 6x2's topped off with MDF, nothing posh but seems solid enough for my needs. My engineers vice is big and my wood vice quite small, so I am now thinking of the engineers vice fixed to the bench over the leg at the...

    Older newbie

Cheers Roger, Oops I forgot the picture, as I say the bench is certainly nowhere near the standards I see on here, but here is a pic for you to have a chuckle at: [/URL] The bench measures 2100 x 600 x 900 tall, and somehow I have got to squeeze a bench grinder, pillar drill, engineering vice...

    Older newbie

Hello All, I stumbled across this site/forum whilst researching workbench building, the last bench I built was some thirty five years ago in my early days of boat building. Anyway, after many alterations for change of use, and much abuse it was time to replace it, it had to be something...

    New TS200 Mk2

I do apologise, on re-reading my post I can see that this would come across as gloating which was not intended. My message was intended to point out that without much in the way of research I had seem to have got a very good deal, and was wondering if I had missed something obvious (to others)...
