    Oak back door supplier

Can anyone help me with a recommendation of where to buy a back door, standard size 30" wide? I would like one made of oak, to match my kitchen with a single clear glass d/g pane in the top and a panelled bottom. Ought to be easy - but actually isn't. There are any number of on-line retailers...

Worktop Jointing - Jigs and Bolts?

There are much cheaper jigs available on ebay. I seem to remember getting one for about £30. Obviously you get what you pay for and cheaper ones probably wouldn't last as long, but if you just want to make some joints for your own kitchen they are fine

    Edge planing with a P/T

It turned out that the outfeed table was quite a bit out. Less than a quarter turn on the adjuster screws has made a big difference. It also sounds right now and you can also feel that you are getting an even cut Thanks for all the replies.

    Edge planing with a P/T

I'm sure this is one of those things that just needs some logical thought .... I'm making panels for kitchen doors from oak and they about 8-9mm thick. When I plane up the edges of the pieces for glueing, it seems to be a rather hit and miss process. Either the edges don't meet in the middle...

    Miles Toola and Machinery Centre

Bought a number of small items from them last year, took ages. Maybe I'm impatient, but I wouldn't bother with them again. I guess companies like Axminster raise our expectations of service, but I think it is sharp practice to advertise what you don't have in stock There is more to...

    Attaching drawer fronts

Well, lots of good ideas there - thanks to all. Like the idea of the hot glue and then use the handle screws with enlarged holes

    Attaching drawer fronts

A question for the kitchen fitters. What is the best way to attach drawer fronts to wooden kitchen drawers? Is there any sort of plate or other adustable fixing available which will allow me to line up the drawer fronts neatly afterwards?

Sjoberg Workbench - good deal or not?

Thanks to all who replied and clearly more thought is needed. I would agree that one could probably make something much better for less and I can see the limitations now. Annoyingly there was an example on eBay which went for £120 (at which price one can ignore some shortcomings) but it was at...

    B & Q Select carcases

Does anybody know what type of MFC B & Q use for the Select Ash carcase? My best guess so far is Knonospan "Japanese Ash" but it would be nice to be a bit more certain before ordering a large sheet of the stuff.

Radius the end of a worktop

I have a breakfast bar which is arranged as a pensinsula. I would like to radius the free end and am wondering on the best approach. My ideas so far:- Use a router on a trammel bar - might need to be very long to get the curve I want - I thought about 1" of curve across a 900mm width. Would...

Sjoberg Workbench - good deal or not?

What do members think of this deal? http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=132527 Sjoberg 1950 bench + cupboard and drawer unit £300 + £13 carriage Is this good value for money or are there cons I should be aware of? Are these people a reliable firm to deal with? The fact that they are...

    15mm straight router cutter?

As always, some great replies. I had for some reason completely forgotten Wealden, who I have used in the past and been very happy with their value for money. I've decided to go with Jason's hinge boring cutter because when I tried a test hole with a plain cutter it didn't plunge very easily...

    15mm straight router cutter?

Does anybody know where I can get hold of a 15mm router cutter? In the so called metric age, most cutters still seem to be imperial and 5/8 is too large. I want to adjust some kitchen units to fit the odd corners, (I'm making the doors, so that isn't an issue) and the knockdown fittings used...

    Kitchen cabinet door front cost

I decide to visit Shedsville today and look at the famous Solid Oak doors. Interesting... The panels were certainly made up of thin strips, so I can believe Jason that the frames probably are as well. Devilishly cunning these sheds. I personally didn't like the finish very much, although...

    Kitchen cabinet door front cost

I've deliberated this question as well and I'm going to make my own. I was quite surprised to find the B & Q doors so cheap but they are on 50% off at the moment. I believe the Solid Oak ones are solid timber but other ranges (which are even cheaper) are chipboard. If you make your own...

    Woodworking measuring units

Since we all seem to have lost the plot I thought I'd add my 3 halfpence worth (another ancient unit!) about driving on the left. I believe that originally we rode (horses) on the left because you then had your sword arm on the offside to defend yourself if necessary. Napoleon (who was...

    Filling gaps

Wood filler is the thing, the two part stuff that comes with a catalyst - there is a Ronseal product sold by the sheds but there will probably be cheaper alternatives. For flattening, a rubber block with sandpaper is good and makes less dust than a sander If you have a timber merchant near...
