    Woodturning Blanks suppliers

Stiles and Bates are one of the companies that I have contacted, and have not as yet replied. They do state quite clearly on their website that they do not ship woods overseas. Must be Brexit! Edit: As they do not ship out of the country, I can understand the reason they have not replied.

    Woodturning Blanks suppliers

As an example: For the first of the projects, I need a burr. I've used the same one before, but cant remember which one it was. Only that its Australian. So asked if I could send a photo of the piece I made for them to identify. One thing that I do know for certain though. If I posted the...

    Woodturning Blanks suppliers

First reply received. "We can sell you the wood, but dont have time to help" What kind of people are these? At least I know that company is not worth dealing with!

    Woodturning Blanks suppliers

I'm hoping it is the case that they need more time. If and when they answer, I'll post and inform everyone. It might just be worth knowing.

    Woodturning Blanks suppliers

I do agree as regards harvesting and cutting my own blanks. When it is possible, I do so. However, the two pieces that I am planning to make are rather special, so eurpoean woods will not be at all suitable. Having said that, I do live outside of the UK, and getting exotic blanks here is...

    Some projects

The finish is a traditional mix of Pine Wood Oil, Balsamic Turpentine, and Boiled Linseed Oil. The pigment to make it black is soot! Two more of my completed projects, both own designs.

    Some projects

Viewed from the other side... Even if all of the mortice and tenons made were a bit boring towards the end, I did enjoy making it as well. Making the ironwork was fun as well!

    Some projects

Some of my projects. This first one was inspired by two things. First, a traditional English Lych Gate, combined with an idea I saw in the north of Germany a couple of years ago. Everything is fully jointed, and no glue or adhesive of any kind was harmed in its construction. The finish is a...

    Woodturning Blanks suppliers

Thanks for the quick replies! I'll be contacting the ones mentioned, and let you know how things go. In the meantime, as soon as I can work out how to post photos, I'll put some of my furniture/garden structure projects in the appropriate section.

    Woodturning Blanks suppliers

Returning to the forum after a long absence with a question. I've not done any woodturning for quite a while now, but do have a couple of projects lined up. Hence this question. Back when I was turning, I used to get my blanks from Craft Supplies in Derbyshire. Being unable to find their...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

The last thing I made, the first picture shows it in the workshop before the finish was applied, the second it in place...

What is th enearest thing to Eutectic 680 welding rods

Eutectic 680's are a 29/9 rod, so most companies have an equivalent. My own personal preference is ESAB's OK 68.81 or 68.82.

    Mig welder

That statement suggests that the welding is going to be done outside. Therefore, a gas mig is not the way to go. Any breeze will blow the gas away from the arc, therefore spoiling the weld. Gasless is not the way to go either. Theres far too much spatter for a neat job to be done, even if it can...

    Working with an angle grinder.

Easy. Two reasons. First, I only ever use a cup brush, and the wires are outside the guard anyway. Second, because quite often, its used in tight spaces, and the guard gets in the way.

    Working with an angle grinder.

Exchange goggles for a face visor or welding helmet (because goggles mist up) add a simple dust mask and clothes made out of natural fibres, and I'm in full agreement with the above.

    renault 190 dci

That engine is also used by Nissans, Opel and others, depending on the year.

    Best paint for metal

As regards Hammerite, since they changed the formula, its quality has become very poor. One thing that I would recommend is the Brushing 2K that is used for boat hulls. I put some on the inside of a steel lawn mower chassis 3 or so years ago, its never even needed touching up as yet.

    Finishing Pressure Treated wood

Thanks for the reply. I've had a look at Ensele, but after reading up on it, see it more as an addition to the stuff I've been using before. That is to say, when the pieces are sawn, treat the end grain with it, then add the treatment I've previously used.

    Finishing Pressure Treated wood

I'm about to start to build a Lych Gate in pressure treated wood. For years, I've always used a mix of wood tar, terpentine, and linseed oil plus a pigment if needed. Does anyone know if there is a more modern way of finishing that is better? Or should I stick with the way I know?

    Flour Emery

The only place I know of for certain that has that is a Company in Ohio in the US called Gilson. They will ship it, but the smallest quantity is a 25kg bag. That makes it expensive, but if you have to have it, then you have to have it! It may be possible to get some via Indian Companies, but...
