    Confused about screws

I quite like torx head screws. The bit sets in nicely and it's harder to round off the screw head. Most of the time you will be using countersunk screws, so get a range of them. The common size I use most of 6 and 8 at various lengths. The general rule of thumb I use is the screw goes into...

    Access to a metal lathe

Having thought about this, I suppose I could also drill out to a 22mm diameter. Just seem that toolstation has a 22mm HSS bit, so really just need a drill press and I should be good.

    Access to a metal lathe

Hi All, I am looking for someone who has a metal lathe or knows of a company in the Waltham Cross area (or close by) that could help me enlarge a hole in a sprocket hub holder. I am building a motor powered trike and I bought an axle assembly and realised after looking at it setup on my floor...

Cheers for the pointers all I will give some fabricators a shout. I went past my nearest scrap yard and they said I could have a dig through so I will be going back there to do just that as well.

    Steel for welding

Hi all, Recently bought a welder and I am now looking to get some steel. The big box stores sell a bit but not that much of a selection, and it's in smaller lengths. I want a few bits to practice with and then I have a couple projects in mind that I want to work on where I will need larger...

What hinge can I use to connect the door to the angled side

Cheers all, It's a tad annoying as if I thought about it I could have cut the top and bottom shelf to had an angle at the front and it would have looked fine as the doors would have sat on it nicely. Lesson learned for future work though.

What hinge can I use to connect the door to the angled side

Hi all, I just made a corner cupboard that has angled sides and I fitted the doors with standard concealed cupboard hinges. After installing them I realised they would not close as the hinge mechanism hits the inside of the hinge as it is trying to close at a 105 degree angel ( I think that's...

    Rain wall water feature

Hi all, not posted on here for a while but recently been doing up the garden so as well as sorting out some decking I have also built a wishing well from pallets and a water feature. I used Sapele for the wood. If I was to re do it and had the space to spend more time on it I would chamfer the...

Making a cabin bed and need some advise

Hi Mike, Thanks, I was sort of thinking this as well. So as long as I anchor it well to the wall then I should not have any issues really then? What are your thoughts on fitting the middle slat support. I don't want to just screw into end grain as I can see that being an issue (or will it not)...

    Door frame installation

My rough openings are over the normal rough openings so its a bit all over the place. I will be making them so I will go for thicker timbers. I'm going for a shadow gap rather than architrave so I suppose they need to be as close to no gap as possible. Cheers for the info all. Cheers Mark

    Door frame installation

Hey All, When installing a door frame should the internal measurement of the fame be as close as possible to the actual door width i am going to use? at the minute with the frame thickness I was going to use there will be (in theory at least) 16mm 10mm 25mm extra space in the opening of the...
