    Bench Grinder recommedation

Of all my bench mounted tools, my Bench Grinder is the one that gets the most use.. I have gradually upgraded my tools over the years but still have a small, cheap grinder which works well, but I wonder if I can do better. To be fair, it works fine... Spins up quickly and I have a load of...

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

Incase it helps anyone.. They are back in stock and have been all week and have not sold out yet. I ordered 2 and as I feared (expected?) one of them has been mishandled and has a bent base.. But the other seems fine..

Aldi Ferrex Bandsaw tension varies as it rotates.

I was going to add this to the Aldi Bandsaw thread, but it hasn't been updated in months, so I hope you don't mind me starting a new thread. After missing out on the Aldi Bandsaw in Dec/Jan as I was moving, it came up again (And as of today is still in stock).. I ordered one for me and a friend...

Black & Decker BD-339 Bandsaw help

I worked it out in the end.. The main drive wheel has 2 grooves.. The smaller outer one and the larger inner one. I was running the belt in the smaller grove and when I moved it, not only did the saw speed up, the speed control mechanism worked too. So I just have to find out the purpose of...

Black & Decker BD-339 Bandsaw help

I put the saw back together yesterday and its working perfectly.. It might be a bit ugly. And I am not even sure if its designed that well.. But I have to admit that its works well.. And to be fair, the first cuts I did with minimum "setup", cut 1000x better than on the Axmister that I...

Black & Decker BD-339 Bandsaw help

Thats very kind of you.. The only part that I know is broken right now is the "knob" to change the angle of the bed.. The plastic part is broken and I found the bits in the box so it happened in transit.. But in truth, iits just a nut and I could use a spanner.. AND.. I have a 3D printer, so I...

Instructions? You dont by chance have a soft copy do you? Are you saying that the instructions say that you have to tighten/check the top bolt after changing the speed?

Black & Decker BD-339 Bandsaw help

I do have one question.. As i understnad it, when you change the speed, the motor pivots on its top mounting bolt.. Assuming you change the speed lots, surely this would loosen the top bolt? I guess you could keep nipping it up? But is this really how it works? I wonder if you could use...

Black & Decker BD-339 Bandsaw help

Cheers. The belt is tiny (perhaps 6x4mm).. Not something found in a car so autofactors won't be able to help.. I think its a "Y-Section" and if so, should be easy to source from a belt/bearing specialist. And I think the bearings are simply a standard too.. Just pressed onto a shaft.. Going to...

Black & Decker BD-339 Bandsaw help

The bolt which is threaded is Part 59.. This is a 6mm bolt, so I have now "upgraded" it to 8mm. The part I am missing is 7.. I think its just a washer.. But I can't be sure. On the subject of the other parts.. I don't actually need them.. I was more interested in the availability of...

Black & Decker BD-339 Bandsaw help

Mine still has the stickers so i can see what its showing.. I wa mre interested whether the "guage" was simply an indicator? Or whether to had any moving prts that you have to use to change the speed, Now that i have looked closer, i can see how it works, so hopefully it will all be OK when i...

Black & Decker BD-339 Bandsaw help

I think I have worked it out.. The V-Pulley is in 2 parts.. And the lower 1/2 (closest to the motor) moves down the shaft.. Allowing the belt to drop lower into the 'V' adjusting the gear ratio. So I guess i just need to ensure that lower 1/2 of the pulley moves smoothly. The bit I don't...

Black & Decker BD-339 Bandsaw help

I have just taken a chance on a B&D BD-339 Bandsaw off eBay and it arrived today and its a bit of a mess unfortunately. I have no doubt that its salvageable but in its current condition I fear I paid over the odds.. But it was a gamble so I just need to move on. The biggest problem is that the...

Are ANY of the cheap BandSaws adequate?

In the end, I went for the HBS250N, and was entirely unimpressed with it especially considering the £250 price tag.. After a week of playing, I drew the conclusion that it was faulty, but I was so underwhelmed with the overall build, that I took a refund instead of replacement.. I figured that...
