    Plywood for wardrobe doors

Back in the early 1970's, I made some built-in wardrobes using white Conti-board - melamine faced chipboard - in about 18mm thickness and various sizes for the doors, trim etc. Instead of using hinges though, I hung them on runners to give two sliding doors. I bought a pair of wooden recessed...

    Indian Rosewood Bench - plonker!

My sister-in-law had recently asked me to make her a two-tier corner cabinet, with a Teak coloured finish. When the time came to stain it, I decided to use a step-stool to get better access to the top. On the way up them, I caught the lip of the paint kettle, containing a litre of stain, on the...

    L shaped hinges

Thanks so much for the phone numbers and address. I got a response from both J Shiners (who now apparently have a web-site under construction), as well as from H E Saville (regarding a catalogue). Fingers crossed that I'll be able to find what I'm looking for through one of them. Thanks guys.

    L shaped hinges

    L shaped hinges

Hi Roger, Yes, that's exactly what I've been hunting for - beautiful piece of workmanship as well by the way. Ideally, I'd be looking for the 'L' hinges, a full mortice lock, escutcheons etc, hopefully from one supplier (to keep costs down). Can you help at all?

    L shaped hinges

Thanks for the kind words of welcome. I've looked up the article which appeared in the June 2005 issue of a woodworking and woodturning magazine, the slope in question having been made by Peter Dunsmore. A Google search under 'images' showed these hinges as fairly commonplace in usage for many...

    Why do you do it?

When we retired, we couldn't find 'flatpack' furniture to fit the odd sized walls of the 'study' and it worked out cheaper to build exactly what we wanted to fit. Family & friends must have liked what they saw and nowadays, my woodworking is basically a paying hobby. Most of what I have learned...

    L shaped hinges

Hi folks, I'm a newbie as regards forums so please bear with me. I recently read an old article on making an Edwardian style writing slope which I thought would be an interesting winter project. Effectively, it is a simple box construction, cut on an angle and hinged to form a larger 'base'...
