Using blower fans to make DIY dust extraction - advice?

Before someone corrects me, i think a fan is 'technically' an impeller, but you got the jist of what i was saying. As for how extractors work - yes, the chips and dust do seem to pass through the impeller itself. The horrendous noise my extractor makes whenever a discarded latex glove goes...

Using blower fans to make DIY dust extraction - advice?

Mmmm.... makes me nervous, but I've seen crazier things work! You main problem might be the difference between: a) the action of moving air - usually done with a fan, as will be found in the heaters. b) creating suction, like a dust extractor / Hoover. Usually accomplished with an impeller...

OMG! - Please help me choose!

I don't want to pass judgment on the Bosch saw stand, as i have never used that particular model. However, i have used other brands of saw stand and they were all utter garbage! 1) They lack the weight to avoid falling over when large sections are cut (overhanging one end). 2) They do not sit...

Good Forum for water tank help ? ( or help me please)

That should do nicely. But think about the mdf template if shaping is tricky.

Good Forum for water tank help ? ( or help me please)

The only wood product that will withstand close proximity to water - and will not sag over time is a decent thickness of exterior ply (3/4 inch, 18/19mm). Varnish or gloss paint finish for hygiene. If fitting / shaping is tricky, then make a template out of 2 or 3mm mdf. If you make a mistake...

    Air dried for outside project?

It's the grade you can save money on. I take it these strips are not so long, or wide, so you can pick up a sawn board that a joiner / furniture maker wouldn't touch with a barge pole - then cut out the good bits to use. Those 'good bits' don't need to be so good - it's not like you're making...

    vacum extractor..

You made the right choice. The trend is identical (inside) to the old Draper WV1100, the parts are interchangeable. I own no less than seven of these machines, the oldest survived ten years of heavy use attached to a belt sander in a professional workshop - and was then crushed in an accident...

    Varnish woes

Don't swap half way through - PU and acrylic dry to a different finish. Acrylic gives a more modern 'natural' color, PU a bit more yellow. You can (as has been said already) overcoat acrylic with PU. If you think about it, quick drying primer is acrylic, and it is normally to over painted with...

    Help with awkward customer please.

If you see this through, even at your full asking price; the customer will be getting superb value for money. You on the other hand, have mugged yourself (as i did for years!). The bottom line (quite literally) is that the customer never had the budget for a bespoke / custom kitchen. A trip to...

    best power hand planer

Reliability wise -Blue Bosch every time. I've had some of it since i started, oldest piece 15 years (now retired due to expense of replacing all the bits i've knocked off it!) the motors will not die. On the down side, my Hitachi was much more accurate, but died WAY to soon. Hopefully they've...

    moving on from pine!

"Ay Up" - I read that and thought - you're from round my neck of the woods, and it seems you are! Anyway... I once thought I'd struck gold 'discovering' Sycamore (sold as a type of maple in some parts of the world) at what was closer to softwood prices. I soon learned why a tree that seems to...

Dovetail jig woes, where am I going wrong ?

Not familiar with the Perform Jig, but if it uses a guide bush, it sounds like yours is to big - undersized sockets - oversize tails. On most jigs the bush size, cutter size AND cutter angle are all critical.
