Hi Al
Mine is a 15" very thin platter made from Sycamore
The side view is to try to illustrate the profile which the picture from above and below really didnt give.
The decoration is pyrographed on then coloured using spirit stain. The burn lines stop the stain spreading along the grain

Been doing a couple of bits to get my hand back in
Started on a platter for the comp, so hopefully on both Nev
Well done on picking up and keeping that going. Very disappointing reading about Blister though. A real shame
Sorry to have deserted you all for an age.
Turners bad back, daughters wedding, etc all conspired to keep me preoccupied for quite a few months.
Still have some distractions, but hopefully will at least be able to do a few bits
My entry is a Celtic Dragon on Sycamore
350mm x 40 mm
Centre panel is convex
Design burnt in using Peter Child pyrography
All sealed on Beal Buffing system
Hi all
All a bit last gasp, I have had a bout of the turners friend, a bad back and not been doing much.

Both made from single piece of Cherry.
They are 8" tall

It is a Victoria Sandwhich made with my own Hens very bright golden eggs mmmmmmmmmmmm (sorry it had to be quality controlled to allow a photograph to be taken). Oh yeah, I nearly forgot ....
by the way it is accompanied by my Tazza Cake Stand made in Cherry. Being a fruit wood...
In my opinion I would hold out to get one of the lots that comes up on eBay relatively regularly of a retiring turners hoard. Your budget is not going to get you all you need (as per Nev's post) as brand new. You money will be better spent getting a job lot.
One word. Proportionality
Have you ever looked at dolls house models? Perfect in every way except one twelfth the scale.
If all proportions are right - including the cake - which then can be a cup cake no-one will be none the wiser. We have a cake tin which is 6" so if you can do a 6" blank...
You know Boysie - when your right , you're right!
Time to pick up this whole dimension and give it a shove. Turning and Talking Balls for the last month certainly takes it all back to where we were, especially when you look at ians interpretation on Balance with the Ball on top.Another Month or...
