It's a bit of a long shot but I was wondering if there are any bikers on here that have built their own paddock stand or lift?
I've scouted the web and saw a nice simple design but was only a poor photo with no plans. I'm new to woodworking and would love to make a simple paddock stand to work...
I'm 39 and am only beginning woodworking too.
There's lots of great advice on here, almost too much! It can be a bit frustrating starting off. I've accumulated plenty of tools but am still at square one. Its hard to get time with a young family but I'm in it for the long run. I'm going to go...
Great info, thanks to everyone. I've got a lot to think about. Ditch the guide theory? Why not! What's the worst that could happen?
Also great suggestions for oilstones etc.
I would never have thought woodwork would require this research! Which tools, how to sharpen, etc its kept me busy.
Lovely stuff. Thanks to everyone for the advice and recommendations.
As mentioned by someone earlier, I was really interested in if there was any decent diamond plates/stones about for a reasonable sum. I've read lots of threads on sharpening and thought the forum could really do with...
I have decided to go down the Paul Sellers road in starting woodwork. I have purchased The Essential Woodworker and Sellers book too. My plan is to go between the two. My first task is to sharpen my plane, spokeshave and chisels. Having read Paul's book I would like to do the diamond stone and...
I'm still a bit undecided about going for a try square or the engineers square. It's going to be another long month before I can get the rest of tools/timber I need for the bench so I'm weighing up whether to go for a relatively cheap 11/12 quid try or spend a bit more for the engineer square...
I have been thinking and thinking about what to do for projects and have decided upon a very simple small four foot by two bench to start me off. It's only now that I have managed to pick up a few tools at last. I looked locally at the likes of Wickes, Homebase and some local antique shops but...
Thanks, I agree about shopping locally, I've taken a look at some local antiques shops and one in particular has a load of old wooden planes but they look like they need a lot of TLC. I will keep an eye out in future for more. They have really old chisels etc. I think if you knew your onions so...
I like the sound of that. It's not very much at all to procure and could be a sound purchase. My library will be second to none in no time.
An earlier poster mentioned about checking the local libraries, sorry can't seem to quote from another page when I've quoted from the last? Anyway, thank...
