    Advice required about veneering please

A year later, and my DIY speakers with rosewood CV veneer are all finished.....

Putting stain and finishing coats on iron-on veneer.

Hi! I have found help here in the past and I'm looking for help today! I have made two large loudspeaker cabinets which I have veneered and stained, and now I need to apply a finish to them. I veneered the cabs with "CV Brazilian Rosewood" veneer, that's an engineered veneer made to look like...

Iron-on Veneer. Is it any good?

Thanks for the advice. Colron recommend their Refined Lacquer which is a pva type material, white when wet, clear when dry. Almost like thin PVA glue. Just a bit worried about using the wrong stuff...so advice still required, please!

    Car body spray on MDF?

If I'm going to paint MDF I usually use a spray primer filler (now often called a hi-build primer) in tins, which often comes in grey, or mucky yellow colour. It is thicker than the ordinary primers and builds up well. As regards MDF edges, I just use a bit of wood filler and sand it down, THEN...

    Spray booth build

https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/373658100313554203/ Sometimes you can do things on the cheap. I don't do MUCH spraying, but I am conscious of dust and of my health, so I always use decent safety gear. I have to do my spraying at home in the yard which is dusty, so I now have a cheap second-hand...

Project help:- Nottingham clubs / turners

Thank you both! Sorry for the late reply......I hadn't set my options on the site to notify me if anyone replied, so I hadn't realised you had responded!!! Anyway, many thanks to you both for responding. To be honest, I was thinking over my options as to whether I asked if I could use someone...

Project help:- Nottingham clubs / turners

Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help me. I am a retired woodwork teacher, and as such I no longer have use of a wood lathe, BUT I am making a couple of loudspeaker cabinets and I need a couple of identical parts turning on a wood lathe. These can be made of any stable wood (stable at room...

    Advice required about veneering please

I've tried heat activated double sided film, with paper backed veneer. Used a dry iron. Also a carpet hammer tool, heavy steel, chrome plated, a bit like a bolster chisel 100mm wide. All seemed fine but it is not easy to avoid some air pockets....am going to try a localised heat gun next with a...

    Advice required about veneering please

OK, that sounds like a good solution. My only concern would be that I'm applying the film to MDF, then removing the backing paper, then placing the paper backed veneer in position and ironing it on.... Now, I can see that the film would work as planned with ordinary unbacked veneer, BUT isn't...

    Victorian chair steps - WIP

Please can anyone tell me how permanent the Potassium Permanganate staining is? Is it FAIRLY lightfast, or will it fade badly over the years if exposed to indirect sunlight through a window? (I will shortly be considering staining 2 veneered speaker cabinets.) Thank you.

    Advice required about veneering please

I have no equipment other than my hands and a few handtools. No veneer press or vacuum bags. Engineered veneer is thin pieces of bamboo which are cut, glued and pressed into sheet form, 0.5mm thick, then stained and printed to simulate other woods. There is a paper backing stuck to the back...

Droogs, what is hammer veneering please, and is it just a technique for hide glue or can it be used with cascamite?
