Thanks for all the replies and info, it is very much appreciated! I shall have to think long and hard about this.

    planer thicknessers

All the P/Ts I have seen have just one block, in an 'over and under' configuration. You just feed the timber from opposite ends depending whether it's 'over' (planer) or 'under' (thicknesser). I have recently bought the Axy AW106PT2. It's good but you have to remove the planer fence to lift the...

    Can I make sash windows?

Hello all, I am contemplating looking into making my own box sash windows for our new build house, due to the cost of getting a joinery company to make them, or the lack of quality of mass produced spiral balance items. There will be 18 in total and I am looking at £20-25K for bespoke!! I have...

Dropping a length of lighting cable into a circuit.

John, You may have done this already, but if you haven't it is worth checking before you buy the cable whether the existing cable is 2 or 3 core plus earth. If it is a link circuit it may well be 3 plus earth (live, common live, neutral and earth). Also use the same size cable as existing, or...

    Damp in garage workshop

Yes there should be a damp barrier under the concrete. It doesn't matter what the floor level is outside. The idea is to prevent moisture rising through the concrete from the ground below it. This is then 'tied in' to a DPC in the brick mortar which should be approx 2 courses (6") above the...

    Damp in garage workshop

It certainly sounds like you have a damp membrane problem; either you haven't got one, or it has failed under the floor somewhere. If there is a DPM (Damp Proof Membrane) it is most likely there is a gap between the old and new. You need to install a damp barrier somehow. The easiest way is to...

    Oak coffee table

I didn't do it right! I planed a full length rail, then chopped the drawer section out to make three pieces, rather than cutting the drawer front out of the full length on the bandsaw! This means I had to fix the top and bottom pieces of the rail back which was not easy and they moved slightly...

    Questions

Why is Dyslexia such a difficult word to spell? Is Tipperary really a long way from everywhere? How many boats sank before the laws of displacement were understood? Why isn't water explosive, when it contains only hydrogen and oxygen??

    Oak coffee table

Hi, Here is a very simple coffee table I made for ourselves. It is all european oak, 25mm planks with a 32mm top. This is the first table I've made BTW! The only other things I have made are a hi-fi unit and a complete oak kitchen. sorry there are no WIP pictures but I forgot. The legs are 3 x...

some ideas for you furniture makers

There is some very clever, and no doubt costly, engineering in there! I liked the round 'iris' type table. Imagine making that with a tenon saw and set of chisels!

    A present for an electrcian

How about a new set of "fishing rods"? Every sparky I've ever seen leaves them in walls/ floor voids and never has a full set!

    Danish oil not drying

Jacob, I have no doubt you know your stuff; but I do not have the confidence to pour Nitromors all over my beautiful new table!

    Danish oil not drying

Due to the extended drying time, there is a lot of dust stuck to the oil. When dry, I will see if it brushes off. Thanks for all the advice, as usual! =D>
