I am not surprised by your disappointment but there are some really nice Chinese made machines out there. I bought a good table saw and an excellent spindle moulder - both of Chinese manufacture - and I am well pleased with both.
I think you need both. SDS corded for serious holes and a cordless hammer/drill/driver for those one tool DIY jobs around the house.
I have a Ryobi cordless and a Bosch SDS combined drill/hammer/chisel. The combination works great. Go for 18 or 24v in the cordless with 2 batteries. If you have...
I just made the change from a Kity combi to separate machines. i would never go back. Separate machines are by far the best and don't be fooled by the space claims for combis - you need lots of space ALL around a combi and set up is a problem.
You made a good choice. I live in France and Axminster wanted £300 just to ship the saw to me so I bought the same saw from Holz Profi in France.
Great machine - I am very pleased with mine.
The only changes I have made are as follows:
Deepen the slots on the riving knife so that it drops below...
I have the European version of the Axy that Tony has. I did fit the sliding table although it takes a lot of space and i find that i am using it all the time. With the Axy saw the table setting adjustments are easy to get at and logical in their movements so setting up and any periodic...
Hi Tony,
I would also like to see your new riving knife design. I slotted the original knife deeper to try to get it closer to the blade and to get the whole assembly below the table level but of course, I still have the large gap between the blade and the riving knife to the rear of the blade...
Just another idea. My saw is wheel mounted so that it can be moved around the workshop. To make life easier I replaced the rubber foot on the table support leg with a swivel castor. The whole saw now moves very easily.
Maybe we should start a thread just on this saw in its many guises. I t seem...
Hi Tony,
I will take you up on the idea of a hinged outfeed table. That is an excellent idea.
Just how important is the riving knife to the quality of the cut? Is the distance from the blade that important?
I see what you mean about the thickness of the line in the magnifier. I will be following...
Hi Martin,
I looked inside but could not find any way of adjusting the drop. In any event, adjusting the drop would not solve the riving knife to blade clearance problem.
The only answer seems to be deepening the slot in the riving knife. It took me about 15 min with a hack saw and a rat tailed...
Hi Martin,
Glad to here that I am not alone with the problem. There may be a way of increasing the drop of the saw - I will take the covers off tommorrow and have a look. That will not fix the riving knife gap though. I am not sure just how important the gap is to the cutting action.
The only...
Hi Tony,
Did you have any problems setting the riving knife? With the supplied 10" blade I can't get the knife to drop any closer than about 14 mm which seems a bit excessive.
I have just purchased a Holzprofi MJ2325D (the same as the Aminster saw that Tony reported on).
Great saw and i agree with everything Tony said about it. I woul have bought it from Axminster but they wanted £300 to ship it to France where I live.
