    Poland breast drills

Sorry I should have been clearer. I know what a breast drill is in general, It was more the "Poland" brand I was interested in information about.

    Poland breast drills

I have seen several breast drills marked "Poland" recently at car boot sales. Does anyone know if they are actually Polish or is it just a manufacturers name? I can't find anything about them other than there are a fair few on eBay. Here is a mint one, most of the ones I see are nothing like...

    Stanley 1960s styling

I have a 5803 drill on its way via eBay and already have a brace. Dont have any of the chisels though. Both the braces and chisels came with yellow or white highlights (I have a brace with white highlights) and you say you have blue as well. I wonder if they are indicators of different quality...

    Stanley 1960s styling

I love the 60s styling of the Stanley 5803 hand drill. They also did a brace and chisels with the same theme and colour scheme. Seems to be a UK only thing not Stanley USA. Did they do any other tools with the same styling, I cant remember seeing any screwdrivers for example that would match?

    Re sticking detail sander pad

The hook and loop pad on my Bosch detail sander has started to come away at the nose. The velcro itself is fine its just that the pad is coming away from the base. Any recommendations on what type of glue to use to stick it back down ?

    sharpening kitchen knives

I use a Wusthof 2 Stage sharpener which has diamond and ceramic rods for course and fine sharpening in conjunction with a decent butchers steel for honing. https://www.steamer.co.uk/brands/wustho ... pener.html The Wusthof is brilliant. Makes any knife razor sharp (how long it holds an edge is...

    Oil stone refurb

That's strange. I had never hear of that until today. I bought four old oil stones at the car boot on Saturday (not for 50p though they were £12 a pair) and one of them staid "a product of the carborundum company" on the box. I did a search and this popped up in a knife forum discussing a new...

Your first car booty of the season

A Record 52E quick release vise in really good nick for £20 at York on Saturday morning. Plus a whole load of assorted stuff generally for £1 each or less. Mainly files, pliers and spanners this time. Screwdrivers were scarce. I did get a lovely Gedore 91 8 inch adjustable spanner for £1 which...

Your first car booty of the season

What did you use on the handle of the ratcheting screwdriver to colour it black again, stain or paint?

Cost of spares in the UK

Sometimes a part with two target customer bases can have two prices. I used to have an old Fiat X19 which had a Fiat 1500cc Mirafiori engine in it. When I needed some valve shims the local parts dealer got some in and they were stamped Ferrari (Fiat owned Ferrari) and had them do quite a bit of...

    Old Stanley screwdrivers

A lot of what we think of as plastic handles were actually cellulose acetate. Acetate isn't made from petroleum products but from wood pulp and cotton. It was discovered mid 19th century but industrial use only took off in the early 20th. No idea when it became the norm for screwdriver handles...

    Old Stanley screwdrivers

That's interesting. I'm not sure how the insulation was supposed to work since its a ring round a metal component and the shaft goes right through it anyway. I might find a really crappy one and saw it in half to have a look.

    Old Stanley screwdrivers

Here are some Stanley 55s with a red ring, not mine I just found the image on google).

    Old Stanley screwdrivers

The tips are OKish. A touch up on the grinder will sort them.

    SCREWDRIVERS

If your using an impact driver then as well as bits that are designed for impact drivers you should use a bit holder that's designed for impact drivers. If you don't then the bits wear out quite quickly even if they are Wera or another good brand. Its to do with the way the holder cushions the...
