What's the difference between these two 12" bar clamps (apart from the price)?

Thanks for that explanation! I did notice the difference in throat depth but I couldn't see how the spreader function worked - your explanation makes that clear - so, thanks again!

What's the difference between these two 12" bar clamps (apart from the price)?

I'm looking at these two clamps and I can't really see why one is so much more expensive - there must be a reason (what is the "spreader" functionality", does that have something to do with it?) In brackets are the Scxrewfix codes Irwin Quick-Grip Bar Clamp & Spreader 12" (86306) - £18.99 Irwin...

Looking for a very short (ca 8" length) piece of steel flat bar 1½" wide - thickness not important

Thanks for your suggestions. After a bit more searching I found exactly what I wanted at rapidmetals.co.uk - 2 off 38.1mm x 7.9mm x 100mm - £2.40 (excl VAT) + £4.00 Postage (excl VAT) - Total £7.68 (incl VAT). With most suppliers it's the delivery charge which is the absolute killer!

Looking for a very short (ca 8" length) piece of steel flat bar 1½" wide - thickness not important

I found a previous post recommending Metal Mania as a supplier and I checked out their site. They have 1½" x ¼" and the shortest length they can supply is 250mm for £6.11. However delivery is £8.50 and I can't really justify spending £14.61 for what I need. The 1½" width is critical (38mm...

Difficulty finding a slotted stubby screwdriver with 10mm x 1.6mm blade

Thanks to everybody for their input and suggestions. As I mentioned I have gone for a Wera stubby bit holder and a 10mm slotted bit with a 1/4" hex shank. It's probably worth mentioning that primetools.co.uk has a really good search option - "stubby slotted" returned 112 results of which the...

Difficulty finding a slotted stubby screwdriver with 10mm x 1.6mm blade

I decided on a Wera stubby handle/bit holder and am following your suggestion, more or less. See previous regarding gunsmith screwdrivers. I did find a 10mm slotted bit with a 1/4" shank instead of the 5/16" shank item you found. Good info regarding hex bits being closer to a hollow grind...

Difficulty finding a slotted stubby screwdriver with 10mm x 1.6mm blade

I did have a look at gunsmith screwdrivers but in the end decided to go for a bit and bit holder. Thanks for the suggestion, it was definitely worth looking at.

Difficulty finding a slotted stubby screwdriver with 10mm x 1.6mm blade

It would do the job if it were 10mm and not 5.5mm!

Difficulty finding a slotted stubby screwdriver with 10mm x 1.6mm blade

Yes but I'm not prepared to pay £5.95 in postage! I'm replying to others and afrer that will let everybody know what I decided in the end. Thanks for your inout.

Difficulty finding a slotted stubby screwdriver with 10mm x 1.6mm blade

I might have to end up using a driver bit but would much prefer a dedicated screwdriver. Good suggestion though, thanks.

Just tried all of those (including Snap-On online shop)

Difficulty finding a slotted stubby screwdriver with 10mm x 1.6mm blade

The subject says it all really - the only ones I have found are from PS Swiss Tools and Garant and whilst the drivers themselves are not outrageously expensive (ca, £7-8), they only seem to be available from abroad and with shipping it comes to anything from £20 to £28. Can anybody suggest...

    Another scam?

Honest Paul - that's me! I recently ordered a set of Bosch HSS-G drill bits. What arrived was a set of Bosch drill bits which were a step up from, and considerably more expensive, than the ones I ordered. I contacted the seller and returned the drill bits and soon after received the drill...
