    Your Cars

Phil, In 2006 I shipped my Honda Pan European to New Jersey and rode her to San Francsico and back before shipping her back to the UK. 17,000 miles in three months. Brand new tyres when I started the journey but after six weeks I'd reached Tucson AZ where she need another new rear tyre (7,000...

    Your Cars

Phil, That sounds like the bike with the faulty cast alloy wheels. Quite a number of these were involved in crashes and extra webs were added to the wheels and they were fine after that. I've a BMW R100/7 and an R100GS-Paris Dakar, smashing bikes, and tough as old boots.

    9mm dia. aluminium round bar

Thanks peeps. I found a stockist yesterday. I need 9mm rods as they will support the new handlebar screen on my motorcycle. The existing rods are steel and a bit too short. The adjustable fittings at each end have 9mm holes and COULD have been drilled out to 3/8" but would leave the fittings...

    Fence covering

Dear me. The new fence my neighbour's had erected shows the 'wrong side' towards me. Am I bothered? I think it looks fine, and life is much to short to be concerned by such trivia.

    Fence covering

I can't stand painted fence panels and prefer to allow them to bleach naturally in the sunshine. Once painted the appearance soon goes downhill and will need doing again and again. Next year the fence between me and my neighbours will need replacing. Yes, it's been painted, patched, repaired and...

    Fence covering

I cannot quite believe what I'm reading. My neighbour has recently replaced his fence with one identical to yours and I find it quite attractive. Especially compared to the ramshackle ancient fence that was there before. Neither do you have to wait 'years' for plants to cover it. I've erected a...

    Shed insulation help

Like to many posts on this forum, I think you are over-thinking your 'problem', over complicating it. Stop listening to too much advice and use your gut instinct. It rarely let's me down.

Oh, it seems I had registered with www.mig-welding.co.uk anyway. Clearly I never go there so I must pop in there more often.

    Metalworking Forums

Whilst I quite like the format of www.ukworkshop.co.uk I appreciate it is 99% woodwork orientated. As I have no interest whatsoever in woodworking, my interests lie with metalworking. What other metalworking forums have you found, and is in a similar vein?

    Lathes shorting electricity

No, you don't want help. You're going to call out an electrician, aren't you? Electricity really isn't for amateurs.

    Dying boiler suit

Who on earth dyes their boiler suits? A new one costs only £30 or free if scrounged of one's son ;-)

    Ajax Pillar Drill

Tony, Yes, as you say removing just the front pulley (there's clearance for the motor pulley) and the guard will expose the v-belt tensioning shafts. Wind them out to the full extent of their travel, degrease and grease them up and they should slide easily back and forwards. When fine tuning the...

    Condensation....I never knew you

Artie, I didn't actually measure the amount of water collected but the tank had filled up after 12 or 24hrs and the red light came on to automatically switch it off. For a £15 secondhand purchase, it certainly seems to do the job. But I do need to plumb in a 1/2" bore plastic pipe to drain it...
