New Veritas plane UKW exclusive announcement

That's ok, just lay 'em out on the sale table. Let me know when you do, though :)

    Shooting for Perfection

 I'm not entirely sure it is "untapped", but the market sure is strong.

    beading tools

Oh yes, scratch stock is a great way to create small mouldings (hence why I own both the LV and LN holders, as well have made my own a couple of times), but I am looking for new beading planes for long runs. Had my hopes up for a moment, but then the new LV sounds like it might be a great...

    beading tools

Ahh, so still scraping based. Veddy interesting ... I won't give up on those cabinetmakers beading planes, but still, the Preston looked pretty neat; given some improvements, it could be a real winner. I forsee eBay for the LN...

    beading tools

Well now, ain't that interesting. I am kind of a fan of beading ... I just like the look, especially on backing boards, etc. I can get kind of carried away but try to keep it under control :) I have: - A Veritas Beading Tool. This works well, and the blades are made well. Being a scratch...

    Philly's Toys...

I'd be real interested in the performance of that skewed mitre plane as compared to the LN #9. I quite like my #9 and use it very frequently in the shop, but I always feel it could run a little easier; It still hits the wood with frightening thunk and can be pretty hard to push if you don't...

LN 5.5 out of square it seems

Not that contacting LN isn't worth it, but to be fair to them I don't believe they make any claims as to the squareness of the sides to the base ... the only place that make that specific claim is for the #9 I believe. That said, the machines which grinder these tend to make em 90 degrees...

Fastest way to flatten chisesl I've found

A few definitions of "help": # give help or assistance; be of service; "Everyone helped out during the earthquake"; "Can you help me carry this table? ... # be of use; "This will help to prevent accidents" # improve the condition of; "These pills will help the patient" # help oneself: abstain...

Fastest way to flatten chisesl I've found

I think Alan, what David C is trying to tell you is that it isn't a plane fettling DVD that you have (it is a sharpening DVD), so pointing out the omission of plane fettling items isn't really pointing out a flaw. It is like complaining that apples don't taste like oranges. That said, a combo...

New blade essential for ultra thin shavings?

IMO (and experience, which certainly ISN'T up to par(*) with many here), almost any blade of any even just OK tool steel should be able to take very fine shavings in well-behaved wood when it has been freshly sharpened. Better steel will get you better edge life. My guess would be (a) plane not...

    Rob Cosman

His method of very very small pins of using the same kerf to cut down adjacent sides of two tails would be a tremendously small pin indeed with a very fine set Japanese saw; in essence, the pin would come to a point. Might be a bother to chisel out.

    Scary sharp hollow backed chisels...

Well said. And, to add to it, the real point is understanding there is always an error and ensuring the error falls on the side that does the least harm (or,possibly, even some benefit).

    side rabbet plane

Nothing to be sorry for, terminology is all over the place. You just run them along the wall of a rebate, doing your best to keep them upright (or at least at the angle you want) to widen the rebate. Normally this would be a slight-adjustment or clean-up type of job; you don't want to be planing...

    side rabbet plane

I think you might want to clarify exactly what sort of plane you mean. In my mind at least, "side rabbet" clashes with "moulding plane", so I am not 100% sure which plane your speaking of. OTOH, I am easily confused.

    flatening a sharpening stone

I have the 6" one. Although smaller then my bigger stones, it isn't by much and seems to have no problem getting them extremely flat. I'll admit I would like the 10" one, but I picked up the 6" on a few years back on some kind of sale at LV (it was a return); got it very very cheap.
