Hi,
Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. So I overcame the small step not by sanding as I was planning but by lowering the height off the bowl by about 2mm. Hadnt thought of that yesterday!!! Oops. #-o

Morning,
Was wondering if anyone can offer some help with a problem I keep coming up against.
I've done the bowl in the pictures however the the inside rim is giving me a headache as there's a very small step on the edge. I tried using a scraper as shown, result.... huge gouge, tried using...
Ok so heard back from a very helpful guy at Record.
Item 4, the spindle shaft, does not have a bearing fitted. The only bearings are item 5, so maybe all is not lost! Replace the 3 and hopefully jobs a good'un.
Thanks for the advice.
Good idea, I'll get some prices together. If its heat shrunk I wouldn't stand a chance of removing.
Cant see this being a cheap part to buy somehow going from previous purchases!!!
Nothing is ever easy!

Hi,
I noticed that as well however the strange thing is that item 4 is listed as "Spindle Shaft" so I originally thought you would have to buy the shaft and bearing as a complete unit. Item 5 I can pick up from anywhere as its a standard bearing part number is given (luckily!).
I've not...

Was wondering if anyone had attempted changing the head-stock bearings on a DML305 as indicated in the attachment (item 5)? I've noticed the noise levels increasing over time plus when sanding if I put slight pressure on the bottom of the bowl the noise stops. Pretty sure its the bearings...
Thanks Dalboy, some good top tips in there that I didnt know. The piece you posted looks great and gives me some confidence it might actually work!
I'd once turned the outside of a bowl then went away on holiday, came back and couldn't believe the distortion.
Great advice Chas thanks. The bowl has indeed gone out of true. I must be a couple of mill away from breaking through, chickened out of going any further today!! #-o
Ok thats great thanks. You describe exactly what I had in mind, stick through a bike wheel! I'll be using a bowl gouge with the bevel rubbing so will take it easy when I'm coming up to the bad part.
Must admit I'm not having much luck with scrapers on other bowls so far. Keep getting catches...
Afternoon,
Was wondering if any kind folk out there could point me in the right direction. Quite new to turning and am a bit stuck as to what is going to happen when I try and turn the interior of the bowl as shown in the attachments? Photo 3 probably shows what I mean best
As you can see at...
