Depends on where exactly it is . Looks like the new town area so may be listed. If, a big if , if you can find anyone in the LA to speak with the conservation section should be able to give a guarded answer. Frame taken out and treated as said by Mark it will be good for a good long while. The...

    Repointing using lime mortar

The advice from simoncmason is top rate and excellent to follow that; guide book. Gloves, goggles, really wetting the stone is most important as you dont want to suck water out of the mortar, nice to use, better than cement mix, colour agent is good when mixed and you get dark to lighter so you...

    Started my heavy bench build

Good luck. It almost requires a bench to build a bench. Many years ago I bolted the horiz rails and the end frames both vert and horiz. Many years ago but it is still tight today. Much talk of quality benches and so on but they really are there to be worked worked on so good luck.

Add yes to 'Flashband'. Had a soft wood table 'x' frame picnic table I made and it lasted nearly 30 years from tantalised wood. The top not so good as it was r/w with 'cuprinol'. The legs did rot up inside so damage was not seen. Left out all year...its wet and cold up here. If it lasts 25 -30...

Linseed oil and linseed oil paint

You maybe interested that Linseed oil used to be used exclusively in the fishing industry were the plain look (or tar) was all there was. Used (almost exclusively) in Norway to very good effect. Was the mainstay of joiners giving something a rub, glazing beads or tool handles. Boat hulls were...

Braze or solder broken cast iron plane sides?

It may be possible to put brass dowel pins (nails) in to the plane and 'new' shaped side piece of steel /iron and join the scribed meeting edges using a thin line of metal weld type paste. Best not to do too much as it becomes what is or was not. Total restoration is not best. Flat planing...
