I hope you dropped a comment along the lines of: him having to hide the bottoms of his drawers. :D

How many of you use a hand saw as your main way of ripping?

Other than my cordless drill, I only use hand tools. What I do is, always think ahead. What do I have to do to a piece, what is a comfortable size for doing an operation, what pieces need to be the same length or width and work/match them together so exact size doesn't matter. So back to...

How do you store your hand planes?

Another for the oil (3in1) swab in a can. I brush the plane off and then wipe with the oil pot, before placing on a bare wood (pine) shelf.

    What tool(s) for smaller items?

To strengthen the 45 degree joint: * Glue the joint together and let the glue dry * Get some round toothpicks to use as dowels (clip off the points) * Drill holes for toothpick dowels * Glue in toothpick dowels, let the glue dry and clean up * Glue the stop on, which will cover the dowels

    Bow saw

My thoughts on the frame saw handle. A saw has to be small and light to saw using only the handle. Where I have found the handle useful, is when sawing vertically. One hand on the frame and the other hand on the handle.

Unknown Sheffield Chisel - 7 Letters - Tree or Clover Stamp

I agree with what Cheshirechappie is saying. The advantage a square edge has over a true bevel edge, is that it supports the corners of the cutting edge better. Chisels with lands are essentially square edged, in that regard.

About halfway down the page are two of them: http://www.oldgardentools.co.uk/weeding Sarcloir "French. Early 20C. Peugeot Freres. Used for weeding particularly between stones and rocks as well as harvesting cabbages, salad crops etc. Ref: Dictionnaire des Outils by Daniel Boucard."

    Thickness of casing

The casing of my tool chest is made of 5/8" cheap HomeDepot laminated pine panels, which after planing are down to around 9/16". The overall case dimensions are around 36"H, 30"W, 13"D. The strength comes as much from the construction as it does from the wood. - The case is dovetailed on all...

    Router plane cutting depth

Are you maybe hollowing out an area to inset the movement, a couple of thoughts. If the area is large enough, you may have to excavate it in strips (keep grain orientation in mind), so that the router plane always has a good surface to register on. If there is enough room, can you first make a...
